When the three walked back in, the other Achievement Hunters stood up, the dentist following. Gavin tried backing up but was stopped by an arm around his back from Michael.
"We're sorry about that doctor Smith," Michael said, to which the dentist waved a hand in dismissal.
"It is really no problem, running is a natural reaction to white coat syndrome, I've seen it before. Shall we head back into the office and see if we can help you not be in pain Gavin?" The dentist asked.
"Jack, you ready?" Michael asked. He nodded, walking behind Gavin.
"Alright if you guys are ready we'll head on back." Doctor Smith said, opening the door that leads to the exam rooms.
With a little help from the other three, Gavin began walking back. When they got to the exam room Gavin froze, once again, in pure fear. The doctor opened the door leading into the actual exam room and Gavin saw the tools and the chair. Ray and Michael both tugged on his arms but got no response. Jack nudged him forward.
"Remember Gavin, all we're going to do when you walk in is have a little chat to start. Nothing else." Doctor Smith said with a gentle smile. Gavin nodded. After about five minutes of coaxing, and nudging, they were in the room. Gavin felt like it was about to be his death. He changed his mind, he wanted to run home and forget about this day. He could live with the pain.
Dr. Smith sat on his chair and patted the patient's chair. "Have a seat when you're ready." He said. Jack grabbed Gavin and sat down on the chair, Gavin on top of him before he could run again, while Ray and Michael got on either side of Gavin. Gavin looked at the dentist frightfully. "Hey Gavin, don't worry. I read the paper you filled out. Anytime you need a break raise your hand and I'll stop immediately. You're completely in control, and you will be the entire appointment. Now I've heard you've been having some discomfort is that right?" Dr. Smith said, giving Gavin a look of compassion. The British man nodded. "Do you mind if I take a quick look?" Dr. Smith said, picking up a mirror and explorer. Gavin nodded again and tried shrinking back. Jack saw this and put his hands in Gavin's.
"Gav, if you feel any pain, squeeze my hand, or even if you're uncomfortable. You just have to do it once for discomfort, and twice for pain, okay? We're right here." Jack comforted. "I'm right behind you, but you'll never finish if you don't start." The man said. Gavin nodded and took a few deep breaths, then opened his mouth reluctantly.
"Good job Gavin" doctor Smith praised, placing his tools in Gavin's mouth. Gavin at this point was trying not to cry. Michael and Ray didn't really know what to do, so they rubbed Gavin's shaking leg, reminding him that they were there. When the doctor got to the bad tooth, he stopped, much to Gavin's pleasure. The dentist retracted his tools out of Gavin's mouth. "You did good Gavin, you can close your mouth for now." The dentist praised. Gavin shut his mouth and continued looking panicked at the doctor.
"What's the verdict?" Jack asked.
"Well, the tooth can be saved with a filling, nothing too bad. Everything else looks great." Smith said. Gavin froze and his eyes went wide. Fillings equal drills and needles, which equal pain.
"D-d-do w-we h-h-have to?" Gavin asked fearfully. He began to breathe heavily and his eyes went wide. Jack, Michael, and Ray could only try to get Gavin to breathe and calm down.
"Only if you want to keep the tooth. But worry not, medical sciences have come a long way since your last filling, you won't feel a thing, I promise. Your friends can also stay in the room the entire time, I promise." The medical professional said. Gavin looked fearfully at Michael and Ray.
"Gavin, you gotta do it," Ray said.
"Gav, we're not gonna go anywhere, but you need this," Michael said. Gavin began shaking harder. He didn't want to be here, he didn't want the filling and he didn't want to go through what he went through again. He wanted to go back to the office and forget this whole event ever took place. He could live with the pain. Jack felt the shaking and squeezed his hands.
"Gavin breathe. Ray text Geoff." Jack said. Ray nodded and texted Geoff that they needed him and maybe Jeremey. Not even a minute later, the two walked in.
"What's going on?" Geoff asked. "Gavin found out he needed a filling and began freaking out," Michael explained as Ray and Jack tried calming Gavin down. The dentist had excused himself so the friends could try and get Gavin to agree to this, he had rights didn't he?
When he left Gavin began crying again. Jeremey this time walked up to Gavin, putting a hand on his thigh.
"Hey what's going on? Did he hurt you?" He asked. Jeremey asked with concern laced in his voice.
"N-no-no b-b-but he's going to...." Gavin said. Geoff wiped his tears away from Gavin's face.
"No Gavin, he's going to make you feel better. He's going to take the pain away." Geoff said. He swears Gavin's like a damn child when it comes to this, but figures it may help him with his kid if they ever become difficult at a medical facility.
Gavin began struggling against Jack to get out of the chair. Michael noticed Gavin began sweating and got a damp paper towel and wiped Gavin's sweat away. Jack continued to hold Gavin's arms down so he didn't hurt anyone, all while still trying to comfort the boy by whispering soothing words into his ear. Ray was holding Gavin's legs so he wouldn't kick and hurt someone, and Geoff and Jeremey both tried calming Gavin down. It all started getting dark around Gavin's eyesight and he eventually fainted.
"Oh SHIT!" Ray said. Jeremey ran out to get the doctor and explain what happened.
