Chapter 12, The Truth

Geoff was sitting in the living room when he heard screaming. He got up and looked in Millies' room, and then looked at Gryffon, and the screaming kept coming. Geoff realized it was Gavin and came running to his room, where he listening to Gavin's screaming.

"-no-NO! LEAVE THAT AWAY FROM ME!"
Geoff began to shake Gavin, who was thrashing around.

"Gavin! Gavin wake up!" Geoff said, shaking Gavin.

"OW!" Gavin screamed.

"GAVIN FUCKING FREE WAKE THE FUCK UP!" Geoff said. Gavin showed no signs of waking up.

"NO DON'T HOLD ME DOWN!" Gavin screamed.
"G A V I N!" Geoff said, slapping him.

Gavin shot up, with one more scream, and began gulping breath as if he had been drowning. Geoff looked at Gavin concerned and put a hand on his back, making Gavin jump, then when he realized when it was Geoff, he broke down crying. Geoff held Gavin as he cried and let out all the emotions he was holding onto for years. Geoff just held him closer, and began whispering soothing words to the frightened Lad.

"Shhh Gavin, it was just a dream, it's over now." Geoff reassured. Griffon poked her head in, and when he saw Geoff was handling it, she went back to bed. Geoff held Gavin and continued to whisper reassuring words to Gavin.

"G-geoff..." Gavin said, sobbing. Geoff just shushed him gently.
"It's over now Gavin, it was just a dream. It's over now, you're done." Geoff said. Gavin let out a few more sobs. Geoff held him close. "While you were asleep today, the doctor gave me a suggestion for something to help you." Geoff said.

"W-what is it?" Gavin asked.
"He wants you to be comfortable with talking to him, so he wants you to come back in and just talk to him. It won't involve any tools, just talking." Geoff said, showing his gentle side. Gavin shook his head. "Listen, I think it's a good idea for you, and Jack, or myself would be willing to go with you to help you talk about it." Geoff suggested. Gavin shook his head.

"I'm never going to go back Geoff. You can't make me... I-I'll run away." Gavin said, trembling.
"Gavin, you'll be fine. Just breathe for right now. We can talk about this some other time. What happened in your dream?" Geoff asked gently.

"I was seven, and I saw it all. I was back in England...I was held down... hurt... laughed at... Geoff I can never go back..." Gavin said quietly.
Geoff held Gavin close and gently rocked the boy. He'll bring this up again later. For now, the main objective is to get Gavin back to sleep so Geoff could get some shut-eye himself. He looked at the clock and saw it was only 9:30 pm. Geoff sighed and kept rocking the boy he let live in his house. Gavin let out a few more sobs, and slowly, Gavin began to calm down. Gavin's trembling calmed and his sobbing subsided, and not long after, Gavin fell back to sleep. Geoff let out a sigh of content as he heard Gavin peacefully resting once again. Geoff then gently laid Gavin back onto the bed and he stood up and walked back out.

Griffon was waiting for Geoff when he came out into the living room.
"What happened to him?" she asked. Geoff then went on to explain what happened to Gavin earlier that day, and that something from his dream got him so stressed he had a nightmare from it. When he was done explaining, Griffon looked shocked.

"That's awful. He shouldn't have gone through it. I feel bad for him. I'm glad that Doctor Smith was willing to help Gavin work through it. Griffon said. Geoff nodded. He looked at the clock and sighed. The clock now read 11:30 pm.

"I'm going to go to bed. I still have a company to run." Geoff said. Griffon nodded and yawned. They both went and got ready for bed. The couple got into their bed bed and pulled each other close.

"Gavin is going to be the death of me one day." Geoff said as he started drifting off.  Griffon laughed quietly and kissed her husband.
"Now you know how I feel Geoff. You know exactly how I feel." She said, also starting to drift off herself.

The rest of the night was uneventful, Gavin was able to get some sleep not influenced by nightmares, but ones full of happy memories, and hope. Millie was able to sleep through the screaming, and dreamt of video games. Geoff dreamed of money, and Griffon dreamed of her latest wood carving she was working on. All was well in the Ramsey household.
