Part Two: Mansion jitters

Gina has gone full on friendzilla on me for being late, I mean, can’t a girl be held up by traffic some time. I have been talking to her; I even ordered us pizza, yet she’s still glaring at me. Wait, till she hears about my job, she’s gonna freak.

“Hey, did I tell you about my new job at a mansion”, I break our glare battle to get into a conversation with her

“Yes you did”, she tells me with a growl

“Really, how, when; are you stalking me? So you know”

“Of course not you goof, tell me already”, she says still growling

“Well...... I’m a new maid at the Williams’ house and that’s it; any questions?”

“I don’t think that’s the kind of job you should be doing now, I mean with your degree in business management and all, you should be working for a company or firm”, she said looking down at the pizza

“I know but none of the so called companies beckoned me to work for them so I have to manage this before the divine appointment”, I replied with a smirk

“So, how do you like your servant job?”

Well, I absolutely hate it but I’m not going to tell you that. I cough out loud, made a throaty sound n and looked at her and said, “It is good”

She gave a puzzled stare, “What do you mean good; that’s all you can say”

“Yea”, I keep slurping down on my drink to avoid eye contact and further conversation but my bestie was too good and smart for that.

“Out with it now, all of it”, I peered up to see giving me the best motherly stare ever

This is one of the moments where I dread in friendship. It’s just so hard to lie to a best friend, no matter how you try; they just seem to know everything. It can be annoying. It didn’t take much effort after that for me to spill the beans; I told her all that happened.

Trust my friend, the first thing she said was, “How dare that bitch insult you in that manner; who does she think she is?"

"Well apparently, she is the daughter of a gazillionaire", I pitched in

"Shit, that's true but still shut up so I can defend you a little"

I couldn't help but grin at her statement. She always knows what to say to cheer me up.
I could feel her staring at me as if I was withholding further information but I just stared back. Gina had always been known to have the strongest stares known to man and I got used to it in our high school days; she had the stares that made you feel guilty, the one for you to tell the truth, the one for covering up especially for her which involves lying, the one for.......... I think we all get the picture..... She stares you to action and being her friend, I had to know what each stare meant.

"Ummm Gee, you can stop staring now. In some cultures, it is considered as a rude thing to do", I finally broke the stare battle

"It's not in your culture", she smirked

"I think we should go now, I have a big day tomorrow"

"Felt good to say that, didn't it?"

"You have no idea"

You see, when you haven't kept a steady job in years even with your qualification, you tend to slack in some things.

I got to work thirty minutes late and had issues with my uniform. Some nitwit took my uniform and left me with one that was two sizes small.

Coupled with that, I still had a shift at the Williams office but for now I had to clean some rooms.
This house was to die for and I mean that literally, I nearly died cleaning one room and I had two more to go.

The house is gigantic yet not many people live in it. Each servant had a particular job of cleaning or washing; there was a cook, a gardener and a driver.
The mansion which is the right word for this house has up to twelve rooms and I couldn't say which was the master's bedroom because ALL of them looked like masters bedrooms.
There was the dinning that looked like a banquet hall with beautiful crystal chandeliers and elegant portraits hung all over the room.
The living rooms were equally decorated each for its designed need.

I haven't been to all the rooms in this house yet but I'm guessing I'll be finding new rooms everyday.

Three hours later, I was done with all my work and settled in the kitchen with the cook. Don't get me started on the structure of this kitchen; it was every chef's dream, everything put in place as if it was designed by a chef goddess. Fresh food stocked, Can food arranged, pots and pans of different shapes and sizes all in one place. Mrs Finn who was the cook was preparing lunch, one of her favourite recipes involving pasta and chicken. The aroma was alluring.

Here I am, resting and conversing with my new found friend when suddenly, I hear a disgruntled voice behind me.

"Aren't you supposed to be working", the voice said
I turned around putting a frown on my face

Ughh it's Agatha; head maid and work supervisor and a total butt head.

"I've finished all my work", I replied trying to keep my voice as respectful as possible

"Weren't you the one I assigned to the office?"
"Was I? I'm not sure ma'am"
" Yes you are, the careless one", she remarked

So that's what they are calling me now; the careless one

Long story short, after a bit of an argument with Agatha on my prescribed assignment and the timely intervention of Mrs Finn, the conclusion drawn by all that I start the official office cleaning the next day.
I did overhear from Agatha and Mrs Finn of how my first day incident caused some medical issues for old man.

I found myself at the back of the house admiring the scenery. The hedges looked so finely cut and all the flowers of different colours were so fragrant. Walking through a path with little flower bushes, I praised the gardener/gardeners in my head.

The land at the back of this house  was vast and still elegant, not a rough bush or hedge in sight.
Down the path led to a circle like park with a fountain in the middle; I sat down a bench like block and inhaled sweet air.
The fountain spurt water in a rhythm that was soothing to the eyes.

I have never been a vintage lover but this was fantastic. It took vintage to a classy level. I closed my eyes to savour this place and get back inside when I heard a soft voice

" So beautiful isn't it",
My eyes sprung open and I jolted up looking at the woman before me.
It was Grace Adele Williams
The mother of the Williams house
" Uhhhh.... Sorry ma'am. I should get back", I said trying to move round her
"No dear, Stay a while. I'm sure Agatha won't mind"
" Tell me about it", I whispered with a slight roll of eyes hoping she wouldn't catch it
She laughed
I laughed
We talked ...
