Trigger warning: This book talks moderately-severely about depression, cutting, suicide, etc. Very dark themes. There is a chance that this book can trigger feelings that I don't want you to feel. Please don't read this story if you don't feel comfortable with the situations I described above. Thank you, and enjoy the story. :)

I slowly fluttered my eyes open to see an overdose of sunlight streaming through the window, causing me to quickly shut my eyes. I then opened them again, more prepared this time. I took in my surroundings: the soft lilac walls, teal dressers, sheer grey curtains, and two fat cats named Jasmine and Ariel. I may have had a Disney obsession.

I climbed out of bed, shuffled my way to the bathroom, and stared myself down in the mirror. Ugh, I need to stop dreaming about getting out of bed one day and being gorgeous. That will never happen, and I need to stop tricking myself into thinking it will.

I entered the kitchen in my apartment and turn on a burner on the stove. While I waited for it to heat up, I pulled out my phone and saw what was new on twitter. Nothing much, mostly just Graser's random tweets with no meaning behind them and Bayani's mysterious and inspiring tweets, some of which I have yet to understand.

I cracked two eggs into a pan, and within five minutes I'm curled up on my couch, one cat on either side of me, watching Pocahontas and nibbling on surprisingly tasteful sunny-side-up eggs. My phone started to vibrate, scaring Jasmine away. "Who is texting me at 8 in the morning?", I asked aloud. I looked and saw that it was my best friend, Dul.

From: Dul

Good morning :) wanna record soon?

I smiled and replied:

To: Dul

Sure, as soon as I find the courage to leave the couch

I want to think I'm witty, but I'm really not.

I walked over to my recording studio, or whatever you want to call it, and logged on to our Teamspeak channel between myself and Dul.

"Hey Melanie!", Dul chirped. Something had her extra happy this morning.

"Hey Dul. Hunger Games?", I asked.

"Sounds good to me!", she replied. Seriously, what's up with her?

"What's got you in such a great mood?", I asked, getting on the Mineplex server and setting up my mic.

"Oh, nothing! Why do you ask?"

"No reason really, you just seem very excited."

"Hmm, that's weird!" She chuckled a little and tried to hold it in.

"What's so funny!?", I asked, starting to laugh myself.

"It's nothing, I promise.", she said, starting to calm down.

"Let's just play, okay?"

"Okay.", I answered. I smiled even though she couldn't see me. I knew something was going on, and I was determined to figure it out.

"I - can't believe - you did - that!", she yelled in between laughs.

"I had to, you were going to win if I didn't!"

It was deathmatch, just between us, and Dul turned to craft a diamond sword, and I promised not to cheat and kill her. But of course, I walked up behind her and killed her with my iron sword.

"Well, that's it for today. I hope you enjoyed this episode of the Hunger Games. Please leave a like if you did, and be sure to subscribe. Also check out Dul's channel! Say bye, Dul!", I said to end the video.

"Bye guys! Hope you enjoyed Melanie unfairly slaughtering me!", she said with a laugh. She's still acting happier than normal. I'll figure it out...

"Goodbye, lovelies!", I said cheerily. That's how I end my episodes. Creative, I know.

I end the recording, and Dul spoke first:

"You ended your recording, right?"

"Yeah, I just did. So, seriously, what's got you so cheery?"

"Melanie?"

"Yeah, Maddie?"

"Do you want to join the Cube?"

I froze. Did she just say what I thought she said?

"What did you just say?", I asked, getting excited.

"Do you want to join the Cube?", she asked again, sounding more excited this time.

"Yes, yes, yes! Of course!", I screamed. Wait, Dul, are you just messing with me?", I asked sounding a bit sad.

"What? Of course not! Graser was talking the other day about how we needed at least one new member, and I told him about you! He checked out your channel, and all the members voted. All but one member voted to let you join!", she said happily.

"This is amazing, Dul. Thank you so much!", I said, happy again.

"You are very welcome. Anything for my best friend!"

"This is too great to be true. Am I dreaming?"

"Geez, Mel, you ask me that every time something good happens. It's reality! You aren't dreaming!"

"Wow, I just can't believe it.", I said, still in awe.

"Well you better! I've gotta go, but I'll text you the Cube server IP and the Teamspeak IP once I get a chance. Then you can meet the other members and Graser will probably give you a tour of spawn like he does with every new member!"

"Thank you again. I'll talk to you later."

"Yeah, bye!"

"Bye, Dul!"

I logged off of Teamspeak and spun around in my chair for a few moments to think.

Don't get me wrong, I'm so glad I'm a Cube member, but there is one question I didn't ask Dul that is bugging me:

Which member voted me not to join the Cube?
