Chapter 2: Knuckles' Job

(Knuckles' POV)

                After we came back from those wormholes with the Emeralds and defeated Dr. Eggman, we went back to our normal lives for a while. However, Shade was having a hard time adjusting. She doesn't have a home anymore. I wasn't sure how to help her. Rouge suggested that I let her help me protect the Master Emerald. I saw Shade sitting on a tree near Frog Forest. I walked up to her.

"Hey! Are you doing ok?!" I shouted at her.

She looked down and smiled at me.

"Yes, I'm fine. What's going on?" she asked me calmly.

I looked at her and said calmly, "I could use some help watching the Master Emerald. Do you want to help me?"

She thought about it.

"Maybe, but don't the Chaotix help you?" she asked me.

"No! Those guys have their own problems! Plus, almost every time I leave the Master Emerald with them, it gets stolen!" I shouted annoyed at the group.

They maybe my friends, but they suck at the one job I give them! She laughed as she heard my rant. I stopped ranting and looked at her.

"Well, uh what do you think?" I asked her.

"Sure. I'll come by soon" she said with a smile.

I just nodded and went back to the island. I ate some purple grapes and waited. It was almost sunset. She wasn't here yet. I was worried.

"Hey! Knuckles!" she shouted.

I looked down the steps and saw her. She walked up to me.

"I agree" she said with a smile.

"Thank you. I hope you enjoy your stay here" I said as I went to sleep.

She laughed. I liked her laugh. She finally sounded happy after everything that has happened to her. I was grateful for that. She could finally be someplace safe without any threats in her life.
