The rest of the summer flies by. I spend some of my time with Draco, but a couple days I visit Carson at the dragon sanctuary. Thanks to my photographic memory, I memorize all of my school books and a few extra spells that Ruby teaches me. I even brew a few simple potions.
Ruby has become my personal house elf, under Uncle Neil's orders. She's a great companion, but unfortunately, I can't take her to school with me. In her place, Uncle got me a pure-bred Maine Coon kitten. Right now she's tiny, but she's supposed to get three to four feet from nose to the tip of her tail. I name her Vanilla.
Today I leave for Hogwarts. My hair is chestnut brown and reaches my lower back, and I male my eyes emerald with a ring of bright gold in the middle.
I walk downstairs carrying Vanilla and my messenger bag, and Ruby follows with my trunk. Ruby sets my trunk and bag by the door. I head into the breakfast nook where Topaz has made my favourite breakfast; french toast with baked apples and oatmeal on top. Uncle Neil is already eating his normal breakfast if eggs, sausage, toast, and coffee.
About halfway through breakfast, Carson waltzes out of the nearest fireplace.
"How's my Rosie doing this fine morning?" He says with a goofy look on his face. Uncle Neil ignores him.
"What are you smoking?" I say with a straight face.
"I'm wounded. And here I am being an amazing older cousin, going to take you to the train platform for your first year of school."
"Speaking of, you two should get going. I'll see you for Christmas. Remember to write." Uncle Neil says as he leaves.
"Bye Uncle Neil," I say.
Carson and I grab my stuff and Vanilla and apparate to Kings Cross Station. Vanilla climbs from my arms onto my shoulder. We walk through the barrier onto Platform 9 and 3/4. I see lots of families bustling around and a large, scarlet engine; the Hogwarts Express.
"Go get on the train and find Draco. I'll get your trunk put away. See you at Christmas. Write to either dad or me at least once a week. Also, write to your aunt." Carson says as he hugs me goodbye.
"I'll see you at Christmas," I say and rush off to find Draco. I find him in a compartment with two boys, Crabbe and Goyle. Draco starts talking about how he saw my brother on the platform. We get into a fight about it and I storm off, my hair a blood red.
I find another compartment, this one has a few older kids dressed in black and yellow robes. Hufflepuffs, the kind ones.
"Can I sit here? I got in a fight with my only friend so far and stormed out on him." I say.
"Of course. Are you a first year?" One of the two girls say. She has dirty blonde hair and big blue eyes.
"Yeah. I'm Rosabella Potter."
"I'm Laila West, this is Sarah Marcus, Cedric Diggory, and Grayson Abbott." She points to each person when she says their name.
"So what house do you want to be in?" One of the boys, Cedric, asks.
"Well apparently my mum's whole family was in Hufflepuff; my Uncle Cornelius' manor is completely decorated in yellow and black. On the other hand, my dad was some great Slytherin. Either Hufflepuff or Slytherin."
"Cool. We're all in Hufflepuff. Cedric and I are fourth years and Sarah and Grayson are third years." Says Laila.
By now I've calmed down and my hair returns to a chestnut colour.
"Woah! You can change your hair?" Sarah exclaims.
"Yeah. I'm a metamorphmagus." I say.
"Cool. There used to be another metamorphmagus in Hufflepuff, but she graduated last year." Grayson adds.
