Rowan sat up yawning. The sun had just begun to rise and everything was tinted a faint pinkish red. Rowan looked around with sleepy eyes. There were Emily and Alex curled up by the fire, looking like a ball of scales and ash. Rowan suddenly remembered the dragons tears. After a quick look around, she saw them once again floating behind her. She didn't understand how or why they knew to follow her but she was glad they did. But then she glanced around again, Rowan realized that Ella was nowhere to be seen. Rowan groaned quietly to herself. Knowing Ella, she could be absolutely anywhere. It could take hours to find her, and they just didn't have time to spare. Rowan spread her wings and soared up for a better look. It was amazing how naturally flying came to her now. She took a minute just to dive and flip and enjoy the freedom that came with flying. She checked all the nearby clouds half expecting to see Ella napping on one, but no. She wasn't there. How strange. Normally the little fairy cat was so clingy Rowan couldn't have gotten rid of her of she tried. She went back to wake Alex and Emily for some help in finding her.
Getting Alex and Emily to get up was a little harder than expected. She had to duck under their powerful tail, dodge their snapping teeth and just barely avoid being burnt to a crisp in a fiery explosion. And even once they were up it took awhile to convince them that they could not sleep ten more minutes and that this could not wait until after breakfast. "I just think we would be more helpful after a little more sleep and some bacon." Alex said.
"I agree." Emily said. "Everything is better with bacon."
"You can go fry some pigs after we get Ella. But where should we start looking..." Rowan wondered. Just then a piercing scream shattered the morning silence, followed by a shrill voice. Rowan couldn't make out what it was saying at this distance, but she knew it had to be Ella. "I think we should look in that direction." Emily said pointing.
"No kidding." Rowan muttered under her breath and they turned to follow Ella's voice. As they got closer she could pick out a few words. "No no no.... I'm sorry ... stop it stop it...."
"What is she doing?" Alex asked.
"I have no idea." Rowan said. They swooped down into a clear area between trees and Rowan burst out laughing.
