“I’m tired!” Ella groaned for the fifth time since they started flying. “can’t you guys carry me for awhile?” she whined, addressing Emily and Alex.

“How dare you?!” Alex hissed, “How dare you suggest we let you sit on us?”

“Yes, are you absolutely mad?” Emily added angrily, small sparks shooting out of her mouth. “Why would we degrade ourselves by acting like common animals?”

“I think we will fly ahead, and give you pathetic fliers a chance to move at a slower pace for a while.” Alex decided, before they went ahead with a flap of their mighty wings.

“Well that was rude.” Ella muttered.

“What else did you expect from them?” Rowan asked. “Did you think they would put on a saddle and tell you to hop on?”

“That would be nice.”

“Just keep flying, Ella.  We must be getting close by now.”

An hour had passed since Alex and Emily had left, and Ella and Rowan still hadn’t seen them.

“When are they coming back?” Ella moaned. “I’m soo tired!”

“Shush, Ella!” Rowan snapped, tired and cranky from all the flying, and not in the mood to put up with Ella’s incessant chatter.

“Rowan...” Ella started, but Rowan glared at her, effectively shutting her up.

“Just give me a minute of peace, Ella, just one minute.”

“But...”

“Ella! Stop. Talking!”

Ella stayed quiet for a few seconds before she spoke once again, her words rushing together she was talking so quickly. “Butthereisaboat.”

“What?” Rowan asked, her confusion temporarily greater than her annoyance.

“There is a boat.” Ella repeated more slowly.

Rowan looked down, seeing the small fishing boat for the first time. “Well why didn’t you say something?”

“Look, there is someone in it!” Ella pointed out. “We should go ask if we can rest there for awhile.”

“Good idea.” Rowan agreed, before angling her wings so she glided gently down towards the boat.

As she neared the boat, the blurred figure inside became more visible until she saw it was a slightly overweight human male with mousy brown hair and his skin had an almost green quality to it.

“Hello!” Ella shouted down to the stranger. “Do you mind if we rest in your boat for a few minutes?”

“Sure!” He shouted back, his voice hoarse and scratchy, like it hadn’t been used in a while.

Ella and Rowan landed gracefully in the boat, their paws tapping softly against the wood.

“I’m Michael.” He said, his voice resembling a growl.

“I’m Ella and this is Rowan.” Ella said. “We have been flying for hours and we really need to rest. Thank you for letting us use your boat.”

"Of course." He said. "Its my pleasure."

"Thats so nice of you. We really appreciate it." Rowan said as she and Ella climbed aboard. The boat was rather small, just the main deck and a little cabin like room in the center. Michael unlocked the door and let them inside. "Here, come out of the hot sun and rest in the shade. Have a seat over there and I could get you something to drink. Is water fine?"

"Yes, thank you." Rowan said. Michael walked out of the room to get their drinks, closing the door behind him.

"I don't like him." Ella said after awhile.

"Why not?" Rowan asked. "He's been so kind to us, letting us on his boat and all."

"There's just something about him I don't trust." Ella said. " And he smells."

"Well that's a horrible way to judge someone." Rowan said.

"Are you saying you don't think he smells?"

"Oh no he reeks. But.. "

"Where is he anyways? Its been like fifteen minutes. He must keep the water somewhere on the boat right? Why is it taking so long?"

"Don't be so impatient Ella. I'm sure he has a reason for taking his time."

"I'm going to go see what it is." Ella said as she hopped off the bench.
