Rowan raced through the undergrowth, her bushy red tail flapping behind her. Her lips curled back in a snarl. She could hear the filthy mutts behind her, chanting “Get the fox! Get her! Get the fox!” If only Herald hadn’t betrayed her. She had thought they were friends. Now she wondered if Herald had only pretended to be her friend to get close enough to tell the pack where she regularly was. As she pondered these dark thoughts, Rowan didn’t notice The Pack slowly surrounding her. She looked around desperately for a safe haven. Seeing only a large tree, She leapt up into it’s branches and held on for dear life. By the time she got her footing, the tree swayed with the weight of Herald and The Pack launching themselves against the trunk.
Rowan jumped as she heard a voice like twinkling bells ask “So how's your day goin’?” She yelped in surprise and struggled to stay on the branch. She turned and saw an impossibly cute kitten with silken butterfly wings sprouting from it’s back. The cat had fluffy blue fur as clear as the sky and eyes that sparkled like diamonds. Everything about it screamed perfection. Rowan stared, frozen in awe. “HI! I’m Gabriella and you can call me Ella and you might want to climb higher those dogs are getting awfully close but of course you do know that those dogs won’t eat you they’ll just capture you and take you to Malvazar I call him Malli but I’m here to save you so it’s all okay! Yay!”
“Uhhh...” Rowan started to say but was quickly cut of.
“Alright let’s go fly away wait where are your wings I guess you can’t fly so I’ll just dance around you and then you’ll have wings and we can fly away and then you’ll be rescued and I’ll be a hero and we can rest on a cloud! Yay!”
The Pack looked up in confusion as a sparkling light danced around Rowan. Rowan herself was helpless to do anything but sit and watch as she was encased in sparkles. She felt a tingling sensation in her back as if something were trying to get out from beneath her skin. She looked behind her and saw wings as black as the night sky.
“What did you do to me!?!” Rowan shrieked.
“There’s no time for complaining let’s go!” Ella said happily before shoving Rowan off her branch.
“Ahhhhhhhhhh!” Rowan cried as she plummeted towards the dog’s gaping mouths. She felt tiny claws dig into her shoulders and she was lifted into the air.
“DANG YOU’RE FAT!!!” Ella shouted as they flew roughly towards a cloud.
When they landed, Ella dropped Rowan and fell dramatically to her side. “I’m dying!” She moaned. “Tell my mother I...cough...love...cough...her!”
“Well you wouldn’t have had to carry me if you hadn’t PUSHED ME OUT OF A TREE!”
