Sorry it's taken so long to update this story but I lost my draft book and had to rewrite it before I typed it up. So here's the next chapter I hope you enjoy it.

About an hour had passed since my parents had left my room, when I heard a single set of footsteps pause outside my door. The scent that accompanied the person outside was familiar, but they seemed hesitant.

After a moment there was a gentle knock before the door was pushed open and Samantha stuck her white blonde head round the solid oak door.

“Can I come in?” she asked (or should I say whispered).

A small smile crossed my face as I slowly shock my head. “Sure” I managed. My throat was on fire but I couldn’t help what I said next, she looked so nervous.

“However I’m certain you’re supposed to ask that before opening the door and looking at me.” Just as I’d hoped the tension on her face eased as a smile crossed her face, only to vanish as she stood there looking at the floor.

“Yeah I know but… um…” she trailed off.

“But what? You know you can talk to me, don’t you?”

            “It’s just… I wanted to ask a few questions. If that’s okay?”

            “Sure shoot”

“As I was walking up the stairs I saw your parents walking into the office, they were talking about…about…” she trailed off again but seemed to be thinking about something which she couldn’t quite grasp.

“About what Sam?” the shortening of her name made her glance at me, and I saw the confusion on her face.

“I think they were talking about someone’s mate, But I didn’t hear who’s. What I wanted to ask was…did you know who they were talking about?”

I was quiet for a moment as what she said filtered slowly into my head. Then one word stood out from the rest. Mate. Of course being next to run the pack I had been taught from an early age about Pack ranks and more importantly about Mates and what that truly implied. I’d also had to learn the ways in which one would identify their true mate. These were:

-         Emotions- feeling exactly what your Mate was feeling

-         Sight- seeing though their eyes in a time of need or      emotional imbalance.

-         Scent- they would have a unique scent recognisable by only their true Mate.

And… and there was something else that had been mentioned but at that moment I couldn’t think for the life of me what it was.

Then I realized something. My parents had left my room the instant after I had explained two of those things to them. Two of those things! Crap. They were talking about me.

I blinked and cocked my head to the left. They were talking about me. The thought came reluctantly.  Then I heard the sob beside my bed, and looked up as Samantha asked “Mina? Are you going to answer my question or not?”

Then I really focused on her and saw her sitting in the chair beside my bed, her sky blue eyes looking bright with unshed tears.

“Samantha?” I asked softly as the first tear spilled over and trailed down her cheek. “What’s wrong?”

Swiping her hand across her face she said quietly “I’ve been sat her for more then ten minute and you haven’t said a word to me. What have I done wrong?”

Her last question caught me off guard and I could only stare at her in shock.

“Why would you think you’d done something wrong?” The shock in my voice was obvious. And when she spoke her next words she sounded really young and vulnerable.

“You weren’t talking to me and that only happens when I’ve done something wrong,”

Let me explain. Samantha was my adopted sister. She’d been mistreated by her birth parents, both of whom were shifters, but had loved them with all her heart. Then one day they had both been shot by hunters as they had ventured to close to the forest broader. When my family had found her and taken her in she would scream for hours on end, haunted by the deaths of her parents and scared by her new surroundings, and the only way she would settle down was if she was ignored.

Sitting up straighter on my bed I took both her hands in mine and told her softly “You’ve done nothing wrong Samantha. I was just thinking that was all. So don’t cry. Hold your head high and show the world that lovely smile of yours”  Removing one of her hands from my grasp she wiped it across her eyes as her lip’s tilted up into the familiar smile that everyone adored.

“So what were you thinking about?”

“Well…it’s a long story…” then I launched into the whole story describing everything to her.

Once I had finished Samantha voiced my earlier thought “they must have been talking about you, Mina. I can understand why you were so quiet before.” As she said this her cheeks turned a pretty shade of pink. “Sorry about how I acted, I can’t…can’t…” she looked like she couldn’t find the right words, so I used the space to reassure her everything would be okay.

“I know it’s hard for you after everything that’s happened, but that doesn’t change who you are. You’re kind and loyal and very sensitive, but that’s what we love about you. That’s who you are.” I smiled at her before drawing her into a hug.

After a while she pulled away and looked at me before speaking. “You know something Mina? You’ll make a great Luna. You too are kind and loyal. But you’re also understanding and care more about the people surrounding you then you do about yourself. Those are great qualities to have.”

At her words I felt my face heat up and my eyes fill with tears. Blinking rapidly I kept them from spilling over. To cover up how emotional I was I stared down at the red bed cover and muttered “I’m glad you think so.” Then wanting to shift the topic from me I asked “I know it was only last night but do you want to go for a run with me?” It was past lunch time and I was tired of being cooped up inside with nothing to do.

This time Samantha’s smile was genuine as she jumped up and held out her hand to me. “Sure. Come on!”

Taking her offered hand I rose unsteadily to my feet. Then we were hurrying out the door.

once outside we found a quiet little area to change in. Stripping off my clothes I folded them neatly and tucked them under a nearby bush, from the corner of my eye I saw Samantha doing the same, before dropping to my hands and knees. Closing my eyes I saw a small copper coloured wolf with my vivid violet eyes pacing back and forth, calling softly to it with mind, it gave a little yip and then shifted into my human self as my human body shifted to my wolf.
