As the trio entered the kitchen, they found Winter clad in her school attire. Spotting her father's arrival, she swiftly lunged towards him, wrapping him in a tight embrace as she brought him to the ground. Elsa couldn't help but think, "Indeed, she's undeniably daddy's little girl."
Jackson, sensing the warmth of the moment, decided he wanted in on the hug action too. With a playful leap, he joined them, laughter echoing through the kitchen as they embraced each other.
As Elsa watched the heartwarming scene unfolding before her memories of days gone by flooded her mind. She reminisced about the times when Winter was just ten and Jamie had recently turned five, when they did everything together—holidays, school plays, and more. However, as the years passed, a shift occurred. Elsa found herself consumed by work, her days blending into each other, leaving little time for her family. It was a change she didn't fully embrace and reality she didn't relish. She treasured those moments spent with her loved ones and longed for more, especially the chance to connect with her ex-husband.
Elsa found herself caught between a mix of emotions as she reflected on the memories she and Jack had shared over the years. Some made her smile, while others brought a tinge of sadness.
However, her reverie was interrupted by Jamie, pulling her attention back to the present. "Yes, sweetie?" Elsa responded, prompting Jamie to ask, "Since you love me so much and all, do I have to go to that school?" Elsa couldn't help but chuckle softly before replying, "Yes, dear, or would you prefer to come dress shopping with me and your dad?"
Jack interjected, "Wait, when did I agree to this?" Elsa playfully retorted, "Because I said so, and you don't have a choice either way. But I suppose I could handle Hans all by myself then." Jack vigorously shook his head in disagreement, prompting Elsa to think to herself, "Gotcha, Frost."
Glancing around, Elsa noticed Jackson was nowhere to be seen, guessing he must have decided to get ready for school.
A COUPLE OF MINUTES LATER...
Jamie and Winter were dropped off at their new school. After ensuring their safe arrival, Elsa and Jack retreated to the comfort of Jack's Mazda. The drive back was characterized by a heavy silence between them, each lost in their own thoughts. As Jack maneuvered the car into a parking spot on the street, he turned towards Elsa and broke the silence. "Okay, now that we're alone, what did you want to talk about?"
Elsa didn't meet his gaze as she responded, "You proposed, and I accepted. We built a family together, raising two beautiful children. And now you expect me to stand by as you walk away, all because you couldn't find the courage to tell me about your affairs with other women."
Jack's eyes remained fixed ahead, his gaze focused on the steering wheel. "It's not as simple as that," he muttered.
Elsa spoke softly, her voice tinged with sadness. "Make it simple, because I'm struggling to recognise who you are anymore, and I'm desperately trying to understand why."
Jack let out a deep sigh, the weight of his words heavy in the air. "I tried telling you, but every time I attempted, something got in the way. But that doesn't change what happened that day."
"It doesn't," Elsa agreed, her tone heavy with resignation.
"But for now, you need to spend time with your kids, because I don't want them to grow up without a father."
With that, she opened the car door and stepped out, unable to bear discussing the matter any longer.Jack sighed again, filled with remorse.
"Why did I do that? But I can't remember much about what happened that day, when that other woman kissed me." Despite his confusion, his love for his wife drove him to follow her out of the car.
