Kenya's point of view
——————————————————
After a solid 5 second smooch, I pulled away quickly. We are both breathing heavy hot breaths.
I am mortified.
Our lips break.
Her face.
Her face was something I would never forget.
She looked beyond terrified.
Her eyes were wide and her lips still slightly opened, her shiny blonde hair messy.
Her warm palm still set on my face.
I grab her hand and pulled it away.
"We must go" I say as I start to walk off.
She remained in the same spot, still heartbroken.
I don't know why, but I just speed walked out of that target bathroom, tears sprinting down my eyes, but no sobs. Just salty tears.
I guess there is something special about breaking your best friends heart.
I speed-sobbed past the produce section, the rotten fragrance slapping my nose.
Then the school section.
Then the clearance section, practically nothing left.
Then the front target doors.
I quickly forced myself into the shiny black RAV 4.
I didn't feel the tears, but I knew they were there.
"What's wrong?" said the crazy hot guy. He almost sounded genuine.
"Nothing" I said with a sniffle.
He rolled his eyes.
"Why aren't you driving" I ask him, I sound angry and confused and I just know it.
"Cynthia?" He says in a confused tone.
"Oh yeah, right.." I say back, almost feeling bad for forgetting about her.
"Did y'all get in a fight?" He asks.
"Something like that" I respond back.
Cynthia hauls her body into the car.
She looks fine.
Like nothing happened.
The kiss.
Everything.
I don't know if I'm crazy or it's the pregnancy hormones.
He starts the car, and drives.
"Where are we going" I ask silently
and sweetly."Somewhere safe" He says.
"The camp? With artificial oxygen?" Cynthia says from the back seat.
"How did you know?" He says in a surprised tone.
Cynthia smiles.
I look at her from the rear view mirror.
Ours eyes meet.
And somehow.
I smile.
And it's genuine.
