The Happier Fic

Daniel Howell wasn't always a happy man.

Dan had lived most of his teenage and adult life battling depression and other stressful things. YouTube was his stress relief, his fun, his happiness. He felt like he belonged as a blogger on YouTube. He could be himself and people loved him. Sure, there was some hate, but his fans would shoot them down instantly. He felt like he was needed. He felt like he was loved. It helped him deal with this thing he called depression. Slowly, he was getting a little bit happier. One baby step at a time.

Then he met someone amazing. He discovered amazing Phil. He would stan amazing Phil all the time. He would watch every update the man created and would follow him on twitter and MySpace. Yes, children. This takes place in the dark times of MySpace. Picture comment for picture comment. In one of his videos he said he lived in the UK and needed a roommate to be able to stay in his apparent ent for college. Dan felt his heart leap. He lived in the UK. He was somewhat financially stable. So he reached out to Amazing Phil.

Now Dan started living with Phil. They did a collab on their channels, to introduce their fans to eachother if they weren't already graced with the other's presence. Dan never felt his smile grow so wide. Just doing a Wacky Q/A video with the amazing Phil Lester he looked up to and idolized for so long made him so happy. He was so much happier being here. Phil was treating him like a best friend. He was so happy. Dan was getting happier, one step at a time.

Years pass and now they live in an apartment complex together. They have a gaming channel now established together and they do collars all the time on YouTube. They have a fan base. Their fans call themselves the phandom. They have fanart and fan music and a shop revolved around them. Hell, they even have fanfics! SMUT fanfics! That's when you know you're doing well as a fandom! Dan couldn't help but appreciate it, being in their shoes when he was a teenager. He appreciates it so much. Seeing all this love towards him and Phil makes him so happy.

It's the little things that make dan forget about everything sad and depressing about existance. Like the fact Phil never liked to wear matching socks during a Dan vs Phil video, or when Phil would constantly forget that a livestream means you can't edit out things in the video after uploading it. It's the stupid, adorable little things that brighten up Dan's life. Phil in general makes Dan's life a whole lot better. Dan was getting happier and happier, one long stride at a time.

Now that beings us to the present. Dan has been through two world tours with his best friend, an emo phase, three living places, and countless conventions and meet and greets. He came out as depressed onto the Internet and was accepted. Of course, he can't  come out as gay for Phil. The internet would literally break if that happened. He did subtly come out as bisexual but people tend to forget thst ever happened. It was 2011 give the man a break y'all! We all want to forget 2012... okay back to the phanfic. I broke the fourth wall enough.

But now Dan has practically conquered his depression. He has no reason to be sad anymore. Excluding the occasional existential crisis, Dan was completely a happy man. He can't complain. He has a phanbase that loves him, a boyfriend/best friend who loves him with all his heart, a very supportive family, and a job that he genuinely enjoys doing. He can have fun and do whatever he wants and everyone he loves would accept it and go along with it.
