Days passed by in a blur as September turned to October. The leaves fell from the trees and a chill started to come with the breeze. It was the week before Halloween. Hagrid had brought several enormous pumpkins into the castle and they were now placed around the Great Hall and Entrance Hall with faces carved into them, glowing merrily from the candles illuminating them from the inside.
Teddy was laying sprawled across the floor of the room in the trophy room passage, which is where he and his friends would frequently spend their weekends and afternoons once class was done. They had moved a rather large collection of blankets and pillows down that they had managed to hide around their room so the house elves would bring extras. Matt was curled up in a black beanbag on the far side of the room, reading his transfiguration book. Zach was laying upside down on the couch, staring out the arched doorway. He let out a loud sigh.
"I'm bloody bored! There's nothing to do!" Zach threw his hands up, forgetting he was so close to the floor, and smacked his knuckles on the stone. He yelped and rubbed the back of his hand. Teddy rolled from his back to his stomach, propping himself up on his elbows, and frowned at Zach.
"Well, mate, if you have any ideas lets hear it. We've been exploring with the map every night this week, the girls are doing whatever girls do, and Tyson is with Gretchen," Zach wrinkled his nose. "Oh bloody hell give it a rest , will ya? They're happy. Let it go." Zach crossed his arms over his chest. Teddy rolled his eyes and looked over to Matt, who was still reading. "Oi, Matt, any idea what we could do tonight?" Matt continued to read. Teddy pulled off his trainer and chucked it across the room, landing it right on top of Matt's book. Matt jumped, then glared at Teddy, lifting his shoe off his book, he held it up by the laces.
"Mind? I'm reading." He tossed the shoe back across the floor.
"We're bored. We need something to do...some mischief to cause!"
"Did someone say mischief?" Teddy jumped and rolled himself onto his back and looked to the entrance way. Fred hovered just inside the door, leaning against the smooth archway, a grin on his face. "Well? What did you have in mind, little Lupin?"
"Dunno. That's kinda the problem. We have no idea where to even start." Zach nodded his head enthusiastically, Matt just rolled his eyes and went back to his book.
"Ah come on, Lupin. You've got Marauder blood in you! You can think of something." Teddy sat up and looked at Fred thoughtfully. He remembered reading about all the adventures that Remus and his friends had gotten into. They were the best pranksters in the entire school, and had the most brilliant ideas. He could remember all the things they did to one particular Slytherin....
"That's it!" He shouted and jumped to his feet, turning to yank Zach off the couch. "I know exactly who we should pull a prank on." Zach raised his eyebrows, a devilish smile spreading across his face.
"Who'd you have in mind, Ted?"
"I think its about time a certain Slytherin prefect was put in his place, don't you?" Zach grinned.
"Merlin's beard, that's genius!" Zach said. Fred floated over, nodding as he went.
"Are you two INSANE? He's a bloody PREFECT! And he's EVIL! You're going to get yourselves killed!" Matt was up out of his seat, book thrown to the floor, face pale as a sheet.
"Oh Matt. You act like you aren't coming along." Zach walked over and patted the shorter boy on the head. Matt swatted him away.
"I most certainly am NOT! You're going to get yourselves hurt messing with him!" Fred stopped floating around. And came to a halt in front of Matt, who just stared at him. "Don't tell me you're going to help them?" Fred grinned.
