Gracie's POV
'Today a man showed up with a shot boy around my age. Apparently Otis shot him on accident when he was tracking a deer. Otis and the man named Shane went out to get some stuff for his surgery.' I write in my diary before closing it and placing it back in my nightstand
I get up off my bed and exit my room before jogging down the stairs and into the dinning room
"The boy needs more blood and he can't give anymore. He's to weak." I hear my dad say as I stand behind him
He's A positive same as me. Which is weird because no one in my family is A positive. Well, my grandmother on my mom's side was
I clear my throat making my presence known. I hold my arm out and point to my veins
"No." My dad says and I nod my head quickly
"She's old enough to make this choice dad. Let her." Maggie says and my dad takes a deep breath before letting out a deep sigh before walking towards the room the boy is in
"Come on." He says before I quickly follow after him
"This is my daughter Gracie. She kindly offered to give your boy some blood." My dad says to the boy's father
"Gracie this is Rick. And the boy is Carl." My dad says before the man steps towards me and extends his shaking right hand
"Thank you." He says and his voice cracks as he tries to hold his tears in
I give him a small smile as I shake his hand
I take a seat in the chair next to Carl's bed and Patricia pours a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the bend of arm before dabbing it dry
Maggie hands her a butterfly needle that is also connected to Carl
Maggie hands me a stress ball before Patricia slides the butterfly needle into my arm
Maggie squats down beside the chair and brushes my hair out of my face
"I'm gonna go find Rick's wife; Lori. I'll be back soon." Maggie says and I grip her hand as she goes to stand up causing her to stay in the squatting position
"I'll be okay, Gracie." She says softly to me before I release her and hold my pinky up to her and she pinky promises me before she gets up and leaves the room
*3 Hours Later*
It's now dark, Shane and Otis still haven't returned
Maggie is sitting in the rocking chair and I'm sitting on the floor in front of her with my knees pulled into my chest while she plays in my hair
An old Jeep Cherokee parks in front of our house
A Korean guy and a black guy walk up to our porch but they haven't noticed Maggie and I yet
"So do we ring the bell? I mean it looks like people live here." The Korean guy says
"We're past this kind of stuff, aren't we?" The black man asks as they begin walking up the steps
"Having to be considerate." He adds
"Did you close the gate on your way up the road when you drove in?" Maggie asks making us known
"Uh, hi. Yes, we closed it. Did the latch and everything." The Korean says as Maggie leans closer to me
"Hello. Nice to see you again. We uhh..met before...briefly." The Korean stutters making it know that he has a thing for my sister
"Look, we came to help. There anything we can do?" The black guy asks as Maggie and I stand up from our sitting positions and step closer to them before we notice the black guy's arm
