"Bella, I know they are your family, but that doesn't change the fact that they are human," Rosalie insisted. "It's not safe. Charlie is hard enough, but two more? It's a recipe for disaster."
"Hermione is my cousin," Bella said. "The only cousin who has been nice to me since we were children. Her husband is suffering with PTSD and anxiety. How can I refuse?"
"Still, Bella," Rosalie started again, "with Renesmee, they'll know something's up."
"Rosalie," Edward hissed, "let it go. They're already on the plane, and they'll be arriving soon. If you were really concerned about this, you should have brought this up earlier."
"And besides, we already got the house ready," Alice piped in, bounding into the room.
Rosalie sighed in disappointment before slipping out of the house, Emmett following close behind her.
Bella looked at the door Rosalie had just exited, and frowned. They had just recently built a steady relationship, and it seemed to be falling apart again.
To take her mind off of things, she went upstairs to check on Renesmee, who was reading Robin Hood, a book she had been obsessed with, even as a child.
"Hey, baby girl," Bella said. "You sure you don't want to come to the airport with us?"
Renesmee just shook her head, smiling.
"Okay. I'll be back soon, and you can finally meet Hermione. Sound good?"
"Sounds great," Renesmee murmured as she flipped to the next page.
At the airport, Bella fidgeted. She hadn't seen Hermione in years, and she was excited to meet up with her. However, she was not too excited about the awkward car ride she would inevitably experience.
"Bella?" a brown-haired woman smiled knowingly at her.
"Hermione?"
"The one and only," Hermione grinned, pulling Bella into a hug.
Hermione tensed a bit at the cold touch, but she pulled back smiling.
She had changed a lot since they were children, but in the best way. Her bushy brown hair had been tamed down into pretty waves, and she was taller than she had ever remembered.
"This is Draco," Hermione introduced a tall blond.
"Hello, Draco," Bella shook his hand. "This is a fraction of my family, Carlisle, Esme, and my husband, Edward."
"Hi," Hermione smiled at them all.
"Thank you for picking us up," Draco spoke up.
"It's no problem," Carlisle replied kindly. "You must be tired from the plane ride. Let's get you home quick."
Bella noticed a discreet look the couple exchanged with each other, but pretended not to see it.
