A/N: Hi readers! 10 years later & Den is now around 23 years old. Enjoy!
I wake in the early morning. The sunrise's rays fall on my big window. Clean, and not a single crack on it.
That is how I like it.
I love all that I have learnt since I have been here.
I whistle out for my dog. He comes running into my room. He is stellar and strong. I love him.
His name is George.
I have been cultivating my ability since I recovered it. I discovered that I can transform into any animal that I have a connection with, but my form would be much bigger and stronger than the usual creature's form, because of my physical build and my training, which started all the way back at the Tank.
After a shower, I leave some food for George, and I get out for breakfast to go to my usual place, ordering my usual food, as well as a vase with a freshly picked rose in it. I leave the breakfast place with it all the time, and today is no different.
I walk to the park and there she is, seated on the plush green grass.
Hannah Rose Lyming.
I join her.
"A rose for the rose. Hannah Rose."
"Ever since you found out what a Rose is, you have never let it rest, Mike," Hannah chuckles.
"Oh well, I like it too."
"Yeah," she smiles and looks away, looking sad.
"What is wrong?" I ask. She is too pure for her to behave like this. I get sad whenever she does.
"Den... we have barely talked about this..." she is close to crying. I move closer to her to hold her. She is now so delicate. The nature has made her even more fair as she practises her ability.
"Why? Why are you so kind to me? After all I have done?" She asks, and she chokes back a sob.
"What do you mean, Hannah?"
"We pass the boundary, we get into the world, and I think we are going to be together forever. And though neither of us says it, we think it. I feel it. We feel it. And here we are, introduced to the rest of the world, televisions and cameras everywhere and all... I get to see my parents and I live with them for a while... you say you will wait for me, and then after some years I meet Jacob... and I like him too, ohhh, I like him... and you just say okay, like it's nothing, and you let go... why? Den...Why are you still so kind to me despite the way I hurt you?" Hannah is falling apart. She is crying.
This is breaking my spirit.
I also thought we were going to be together. I really did. I had never seen anyone like Hannah before in my life, and I still have not.
I have to tell her the truth.
"Hannah. It's because I was there."
"What?"
"I was there and I was watching when he first saw you. And from the way he looked at you, like you had already completed his life and he was ready to share his with you... I knew that I had to let go of you. And I was right. Look at you now. You are so beautiful, and look at what he is doing for you, and the child coming."
