As she rode atop of her untamned stead she had a tricky time talking to Jace.
"What was it like before you went to New York?" She asked, seeing how far back those memories went.
"Well Seraphina and I lived with Valentine." Jace said "I always thought he was Michele Wayland but I was wrong. He would sometimes dissappear for days or a week and then come back and repeat leaving."
"Did you ever-" Laila swerved to the right in a hard turn and Clarissa had to keep a tight hold or she would fall off her horse. "-talk to anyone else?"
"Well," He said, looking far ahead of them. "No. Father kept us in the house and servents ran around, keeping it clean and tidy but we weren't allowed to talk to them. I do faintly remember one person coming to talk to us but that was only occasionally and I can't even remember their name...I just remember black eyes and red hair. I was pretty sure she was just my imagination and, I, I still believe it. I remember a few times when i was young, I would think she was an angel. Seraphina didn't remember her and said my thoughts about her were silly."
Oh, if only he knew how wrong he was. But what he had said about her, if he saw what she really looked like he might recognoze her and notify the clave.
But what happens if he doesnt? The voice whispered through her head. She ignored it as she kept talking to him, avoiding bringing up the memory of her. She started to wonder about Seraphina. She hadn't really liked the Angel Girl. She was like an opposite of Clarissa and was always so soft it hurt Clarissa to look at her.
"When did you meet the Lightwoods? " She asked, although she knew the answer. It was why she stopped going to him.
"When we were ten. I never saw her again so that left me thinking she was an angel that had left me beacause I finally found other people to talk to other than my sister." Jace said quietly until he abruptly stopped and looked up with a hard expression.
"What about you?" He asked in a harder tone. Obviously someone didn't like talking about his angel. Clarissa silently laughed at thinking of herself as an angel.
"What about me?" She said, trying to avoid questions about herself.
"What's it like with your mother gone?" He asked. Clarissa relaxed, knowing she could lie herself out of this.
"Lonely. Most of the time. Its just me and my study or training. I read a little but other then that I don't really do anything except wait for her to come back." Clarissa said, intending a sad and lonely voice.
Jace didn't say anything and silence was all they heard for the rest of the trip.
When they got back, Clarissa put Laila away and took her saddle off. She gave her an apple and walked inside with Jace next to her. The first thing she saw was Alec pacing, the second was Isabelle looking very angry, the third was that Max had finally put that book down.
When she got into the lounge room three shadowhunters were in there with Seraphina. Clarissa thought they had come for her and her brother but when she saw Jonathan's fake worried face she knew it was for a diffrent reason.
"Jonathan Morgenstern." The lady said. She was tall, with brown skin and dark hair. She was wearing gear and had two seraph blades. Clarissa didn't like the thought of her having an upper hand but then she remembered she could probably bring her down with a flick of her wrist.
"It's Jace." Jace replied casually and Clarissa had a weird urge to laugh at how he thought seeing Clave authority was an everday thing though Clarissa thought that with Jace, maybe it was.
"You have been put on trial." The big man said from behind the lady. This man looked like a bear, he had a brown beard and brown hair but his build was huge.
"What for?" Clarissa blurted out and Jonathan looked at her.
"It's classified." The lady said and took a step towards Jace. Isabelle, Alex, Seraphina and Jonathan moved in the way of them but Clarissa stepped right in front of the women.
"It's not classified to him, so tell him." Clarissa said in a voice dripping dislike and acid. The women eyed her unnatural eyes but didnt say a word. A bang echoed through the house as the Lightwood adults came running in and saw the scene.
"You can't take him! " Mayrse said as she took Clarissa's position in front of the women. Robert was explaing what happened in the meeting to his children and Jace while Mayrse kept on screeching. The big bear man stepped forward in the direction of Jace and Robert stood in his way. The other man who hadn't said a word steppsd forward and was blocked by the flock of teenagers in his way. He scowled at them and Clarissa glared back.
"We have Clave permission." Said the lady as she knocked Mayrse to the side and the other men came at all of them. They pushed their way through and grabbed Jace's arms and dragged him outside. He walked with them as they left view and headed for the Guard. Clarissa turned to Isabelle.
"What happened in the meeting?" She asked and a moment delay later Isabelle responded.
"Valenetine gave us a time limit. Either fight against him and his demon army or lay down our weapons and give our alligence to him. The Clave fought against one another and eventually came out with a proposal. If he didn't leave and never come back or cause mayhem, they would kill his son. Valentine is coming back in an hour."
Clarissa knew that this wasn't the plan and Valentine would easily dispose of Jace himself if he had the chance which left Clarissa wondering, would the Clave really kill Jace? Then the bitter memory of her mother came back and she knew that a debate would go on about it and she planned to be there when it happened.
"We've got to go and see the meeting." Clarissa said and Isabelle nodded. She went off to tell Alec and Seraphina what was happening as Clarissa found her brother. She explained to him what was happening.
"Clarissa, you're becoming to clinging with this Nephilim and it's only been a day." Jonathan said with bitterness. He was jealous.
"Stop being jealous, Jonathan. You have spent your fair time with other girls, why can't I with boys? Why don't you pry on Angel girl or something? " She said and raised an eye brow at him.
"I am not jealous. I just think you are not going to be able to do the job." Jonathan said as he looked away. Of course he was jealous, just like she had been when he would go out with girls. Why do they get to care for him? They weren't anything special to him, she was his sister and parabatai. Why did she have to share?
"Of course I will be able to do the job. Its just that he is a perfect Shadowhunter. Just look at him! Tell me without lying that you don't think about Seraphina. She is like Jace, has the perfect body. The exact body a Shadowhunter has. I want him like you want Seraphina!"
"I don't want her as much as you want him." Jonathan said quietly. He was silent and just simply nodded before leaving. Clarissa sighed a little at how open she was to her brother.
She knew that it seemed rather sudden. But it wasn't like today was the first time meeting him. She remembered that boy from six years ago, remembered risking it all to see him. Now he was a well built, attractive man, the epitome for Shadowhunter's. How could she not want that.
"Aline!" Isabelle shouted and it took her a second to realize Isabelle was talking to her. Clarissa looked up and Isabelle was next to her. "We're going up to the Guard to watch the meeting though we have no say in what happens."
Clarissa nodded her response and went to Aline's old bedroom to get changed into her gear. She was putting on her cargo pants when her brother came inside. She didn't bother turning to see him as she pulled her top off and went looking for her black gear tank top.
"You know what to do?" He asked and she nodded knowing he saw. "You know where everything is?"
"Yes. Jonathan, I am not a little girl and even then I didn't need help so stop babying me." Clarissa said and Jonathan didn't say anything back. She heard a sigh and then Jonathan sat on her armchair. Clarissa walked over to the drawer and grabbed her weapon belt that layed on top of it. She swung it twice around her hips before clipping it together.
She turned around and caught the two seraph blades Jonathan had thrown to her. She took a step forward and grabbed two daggers before turning to the door and grabbing her scabbard out of mid air and the sword Jonathan had also thrown at her. She loved her short sword, it was beautiful to her and matched Jonathon's but hers was smaller. The cross-guard, grip and pommel were gold chased with obsidian and the blade was silver so dark it was nearly black.
She swung them over her shoulder and put a trench coat on over to hide it. She walked out of her bedroom with Jonathon following her as she picked up two more seraph blades on the way and threw them behind her where Jonathan caught them.
The siblings stepped outside in their gear to face the two Lightwood children. Max had been forced to stay inside as they journeyed up to the Guard.
Each room they passed Clarissa noted it down in her head and kept walking without a second glance. When they entered the meetting room Clarissa saw the benches lined up for the audience and in front of them and on top of the stairs stood a banister and a spare chair with Jace on it. He looked up with surprise and locked eyes with Clarissa. She looked down to break eye contact as they all moved to the front row. They sat to the far right and waited for others to arrive. As soon as everyone, or what Clarissa thought was everyone, had arrived the meeting started and Valentine appeared. He glanced around the room and looked at his children for a second before turning back to the Council. He smiled and started talking.
