Anna POV:
Ever since I was little, I always loved the idea of decorating the house full of different things that relate to the festive period although I didn't really see the point in celebrating Xmas if you're not religious. However, Ma and Pa weren't all for covering the house so I did it all in my room except the tree; that was always in the dining room, foot of the table. Nothing ever matched; its all relatively cheap dollar store junk. it literally appeared like santas bag exploded all over my bedroom or maybe an elf vomited tacky decorations everywhere.
I loved it.
"I'm so excited" Patty exclaimed, rushing into the living room wearing his brown bear onesie. We all decided to wear one - why not? I was Totoro, Christian was a fox, Marina was a cat, Karim was Pikatu, Luke was a fish, Jason was a dragon and Emma was a pink leopard.
Christian and I started with the usual Christmas Tree. Our tree is artificial, but I much prefer live trees, but I do not like to use them because it kills them and I love trees. We decorated it with different ornaments, some that we have made, some Hallmark, some from Christian's childhood that he kept and Marina added red ribbons on the tree and a red plaid tree skirt at the bottom.
Jason had the task of placing Christmas soap dispensers, patterned tissue boxes and Christmas linens in the kitchen and other rooms where needed.
Outside, Luke and Karim erected a deer that illuminated, 2 lighted trees, and an aluminium shiny tree by the road with balls that are made of shiny stuff so that when lights hit them, they sparkle. Rather pretty I thought.
Also, Emma placed tons and tons of crappy ornaments we had bought the other day including a terrifying Santa Clause that Luke bought to scare Patty with - it worked.
By the time we had all finished, the house was basically a riot of colour and lights. Overall, it looks like a present exploded inside.
Job done!
"Well since it's 4am, Christmas is officially tomorrow" Karim announced excitedly.
"It's 4am meaning, time to go the fuck to sleep" Patty yawned with Marina nodding.
"Night guys" Luke smiled, going upstairs with everybody else expect Christian.
"I think our tree should replace the Rockefeller Centre one in New York" he chuckled, walking over to me.
"It's not that good" I laughed, turning to face the tree. Christian snaked his arms around my waist, resting his head against mine. "Pa always had the best decorated tree" I sniffled, watching the lights dance.
"He would be very proud of you, Anna. Not just for this, but for everything you have done. I know I'm proud and he will be too". That was it, tears started flowing down my cheeks like a tap had just been turned on.
"Oh Christian" spinning around, I fell into his arms and cried into his shoulder. So many memories were flooding back, happy, sad and everything in between.
"I promise to try my best to make this the best Christmas you have ever had. Okay? I love you so much Anna. You deserve the world". He whispered into my ear, tightening his arms around me.
"I love you too" I cried back.
