Perpetual Love

(1 October 2018)

I am a lover
of endless days
wasting away in the sun,
too distracted
by the cool water
and my companions
to notice the sun
dip below the horizon,
coating the grounds in darkness.

I am a lover
of long car rides
past cornfields
and lakes,
and laying my head on the window pane,
feeling the cool breeze
run through my hair,
caressing each strand as it blows past.

I am a lover
of sleepy mornings
with coffee and eggs
and bacon and biscuits
and waning eyes,
falling asleep at the table,
pajamas still warm with the heat
of the softest blanket
and your lover's skin.

I am a lover
of all moments,
from the bright, sunniest days,
jumping on trampolines
and picking violets in the yard
for your mother,
to the gloomiest, rain days,
staring out the window,
watching the rain
fall down the glass  in small trails
with sighs
and the twiddling of thumbs.

I am a lover
of life,
and the small moments
that show the beauty
of what living
truly
has to offer.
