You just finished your putting on the last of your mascara when the doorbell rang. You quickly ran down the steps, almost tripping over your long red dress in the process, and opened the door to see a very handsome man in a suit standing in front of you.
"Derek." You said, taking in a breath and exhaling slowly.
"(Y/n)." Derek stared, mouth wide open.
You giggled and Derek blushed, realizing you saw him check you out.
"Y- you look gorgeous." He said with a shy smile.
"Thank you, Derek. You look very handsome. Love the suit." You smiled and grabbed his arm, then walked to the car.
"So where are we going?" You asked Derek, as he got into the car and started the engine.
"It's a surprise." Derek smirked. He knew surprises made you nervous, especially when it's the first date.
You drove for about 10 minutes until Derek pulled the car into a nearly empty parking lot. You looked around and saw a table set up by a lake with candles, lanterns and flowers illuminating the night.
Derek opened your door and helped you out. You walked, hand-in-hand, to the dinner that Derek had set up.
"Derek..." you took a breath, taking it all in, "it's beautiful."
Derek smiled and pulled out your chair.
You sat down and thanked him as he took his seat across from you.
"I wanted it to be perfect." He said, shyly.
"It's amazing."
You sat with Derek all night, sharing about yourself and listening to what he had to say. You ate steak and drank wine for dinner and had a piece of red velvet cake for desert.
It was getting dark, but the candles lit up the space around you, making it warm and inviting.
"Derek. Why now?" You asked as you set down your empty wine glass. Derek refilled it and then looked at you.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I mean, I've known you for almost seven years now, and you're just now asking me out. Why? What changed?"
Derek smiled and looked into your eyes.
"Nothings changed. I've liked you... for seven years... I just didn't know if you felt the same way. But then Scott told me you did. and I guess I just didn't want to wait anymore. Seeing you with other guys killed me. I mean, I was happy that you were happy, but I just wanted to be with you. To treat you how you should be treated... to love you." Derek looked down at the table. "I never thought you liked me."
You paused, shocked at what you just heard. Then you looked back at Derek and smiled.
"Eight years."
"What?" Derek looked up, a puzzled expression on his face.
"I've liked you for eight years. From the moment I saw you. I watched you play with your niece and nephew in the park when I was out with Scott, Stiles, Allison and Lydia. You were wearing a red long sleeve shirt and blue jeans. You smiled at Scott when we walked past, and said hello... I fell in love with your voice, and the way you carried yourself... You're so confident and uplifting. I remember my first thought when I saw you, and I still think it to this day."
Derek was blushing and smiling from ear to ear.
"I had no idea you felt that way, (y/n)." Derek got up and took your hand. You stood up with him and looked into his eyes. "What was the thought?" He asked.
"When I first met you?" you clarified.
"Yes."
"That you were perfect... and you still are."
Derek smiled.
"You are too."
"You wrapped your arms around Dereks neck and pulled him closer, gently placing your lips against his.
He smiled against the kiss, and whispered one more thing before pressing his lips back to yours.
"This night is perfect."
