When love fades

She hears those words

Everyday before he leaves.

They come out of his mouth so easily.

Just as easily, the same words escape her lips.

It has become a habit

Like saying good morning.

Are they trying to maintain

Some semblance of intimacy?

Words that made her tingle,

Now seem hollow and without meaning.

He looks at her,

He doesn't see the same girl.

She has been a wife

A wonderful mother.

She looks at himm,

She doesn't see the same boy.

He has been a husband,

A good father.

Now he's just a man,

Who puts food on the table,

She's just a woman,

Who makes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

They used to sleep together, with her head on his shoulder.

Now the space just keeps getting bigger.

They used to talk till the sun came up.

Now there's nothing left to say.

They try so hard, to make it work.

Exchanging kisses and smiles everyday.

But the warmth has left their kisses.

No hate, no spite, only a dull coldness inside.

Their smiles don't reach their eyes.

And two hearts wishing to love....cry.

But no matter how sad,

Their lives will never seperate.

There's too much at stake.

Their children, 20 years of marriage.

They can't simply throw that away.

So the decision was made,

Unsigned, undocumented

Words are words,

I Love You is so easy to fake.
