Of A Hallway And A Window

My footsteps resound in the emptiness

Walking alone in this narrow hallway

Locked doors line the walls

Like rectangular decorations, clumsily adorned.

I hear shuffling of feet and whispered voices

Faceless people behind doors, making attempts

Trying to beguile, make me believe

They're not there, and i'm not me.

But their attempts call for more efforts

Or simply remove, my sensory organs

For i see beyond these closed doors

To delude me, they need to try more.

I shook my head at their folly

Like others before them, they underestimated me.

But no matter, i'm enchanted by another thing

I see a fogged window, silently inviting me.

Cool murky glass with tempting eyes staring.

I visualize throwing myself against the window

And feeling the shards of glass tickling my skin

Free falling into the darkness below

Wave goodbye to the bluff behind me.

This hallway with locked doors, surrounding me.

Glassy dark window, mysteriously alluring

One gives bloody light, the other a calm night

People behind doors, this time the choice is mine.
