Demi

I KNOCKED ON THE DOOR OF THE average sized house, after knocking on the first house, the old woman told me two blonde girls lived in this house. Once I showed Alison's picture she guaranteed me that she saw her in this house.

In that moment my heart skipped a beat, I didn't want to believe that the woman was telling the truth. Could Alison, my adopted daughter, be behind this door? The girl missing for two years?

It was hard to believe, so I didn't get my hopes up too high.

The door opened and a blonde girl, dressed in some pajamas with her hair in a neat ponytail didn't make eye contact with me when she opened the door, she looked miserable, with bags under her eyes.

"Hello?" I greeted her in confusion, keeping my voice soft as I looked at her with a friendly expression. She looked at me and her eyes widened, I assumed maybe she knew who I was but she looked like she had just gotten caught for murder.

"Uh- yeah. Hi, h-how can I-uh...help you?" She asked fiddling with her necklace and nervously screaming her nose.

"Are you ok?" I asked her she seemed caught off guard. I felt like I should push past her and find Alison, but for all I know she couldn't even be here.

"Yeah sorry, I just had my friend leave, last night." She said, her constant sniffing implied that maybe she was sick or crying.

But why do I have a feeling this friend was Alison?

"Oh what was her name?"

"Rose." The response was immediate, and she didn't seem like she was lying, so I cautiously slipped out the picture of Alison.

"Have you seen her? Her name is Alison Davis." I asked her and she looked at the photo pained but then brushed it off, pretending she didn't know.

"Nope, never in my life." She said, closing the door a bit but I reached forward and pushed it until it hit the wall, I clenched my jaw looking at her frightened expression.

“Look for the last two years I had doors closed in my face, but this one is going to be open because you have answers.” I said, I was beyond angry now but the woman collected herself.

“You can not break into my house.” She said and I crossed my arms across my chest.

“I’m not breaking in, give me answers or else.” I spat, but she shook her head, and that’s when I stepped in her house.

Alison

“I just want to meet her, take me to her please.” I pleaded, we were sat on the steps away from the door, I had refused to step in the house but I already knew how it looked. I didn’t feel comfortable entering that house ever again, no matter what anyone tells me, the house is like a drug I don’t want to revisit.

“How are you going to live with me if you don’t want to go in that house?” He asked, I was away from him, I was still scared of him because what if he decides to pick me up and hurt me again.

“I’m just not ready, but maybe if I meet her I will remember something please?” I asked, he looked at me scratching his jaw slightly.

“I don’t know…” He said but suddenly a car drove near the one Ryan and I were at. I got up as well as Ryan, I jogged over to the car only to see Maryanne come out of the passenger side, I got so confused until a determined looking woman came out of the driver’s side and once we made eye contact, her harsh expression dropped.

It’s her.

Demi.

My heart began to race as I stared at the woman, her hair was dark brown and she was dressed in dark clothes. I cautiously walked up to her before I felt an arm stop me. I turned around and glared at Ryan, ripping my arm away from his grasp and quickly walking over to Demi.

“Demi?” I asked and she smiled, unraveling her hand to reveal a blonde mustache. I giggled, remembering being knocked up on medication and wearing a mustache to a café. It’s Demi… I grabbed the mustache and removed the paper and stuck it on my upper lip.

“I…” Studying her for a few seconds I knew her, she’s my friend, mother, my everything.

“I missed you, Demi.” I said, on the verge of tears. She was here, no matter how much time it took I should have known that she would be finding me, because I meant as much to her as she meant to me. She was the person who dug me out and brought me back to life as cliché as it sounds she saved me.

Not even amnesia can make me forget all of that.

“I missed you too.” She said, grabbing me and pulling me into her, I inhaled her scent as I felt tears come to my eyes. It smelt like home, wherever that was.

“Fuck you for leaving.” She cried and I laughed, hugging her tighter and burying my head in her shoulder.

“I’m sorry.”
