Dear diary,

Maybe you doubt some of my stories since you have never heard of such situations or rules as strange as the ones I mentioned when you were told stories about fairies as a small child. Well, there is one thing you should know before you start thinking that I am just a fairy liar. There are actually many fairy races, similarly to human races.

Our physical appearance is slightly different and our rules and behaviors also differ. To be honest I don't know a lot about the other fairy races since we don't really spend time together. The reason for this is not the one you have probably assumed. It is not because of prejudice or hatred but simply because of our different needs and lifestyles.

Do I sound too vague? I apologize, it is so difficult to explain this to a non-fairy. Let me think...

For example, humankind often talks about aliens so imagine meeting an alien and trying to explain to it the mankind, the way the human world works. They will not understand if they don't have similar things on their planet.

Imagine having to explain why people value so much those strange green pieces of paper called dollars, how that paper can possess such great power. Even I, who have often observed the human world for hundreds of years don't fully understand the power it has.

Imagining all that, you can probably understand how difficult it is to explain those kinds of things. Things that we view as common knowledge or self-explanatory might be difficult to understand for beings from a different world.

Now that I made you aware of my struggles, let me try to explain fairy races one more time.

Every different race needs one element more than any others to survive. For example, there are fairies which have this strong biological need to be near the water, and they can't really go far from the water without suffering. It's like the water is the center of their power, it is the main spark of their lives.

For you, I might provide a technological comparison I have learned from a friend of mine. Imagine that the water for them is like the Wi-Fi connection for your laptops. The farther you get from it the lower the chances are of getting a good internet connection.

That is why we rarely separate from our source of power and even when we do it's to communicate with other creatures of the world, not the fairies since the power mixture created by two different fairy races in the same place is quite potent and wild. We try to prevent that from happening. I have heard of some fairy races that don't have these kinds of problems, but I am not really sure if it is true or not since I have never met them in person.

I know, I know very confusing, but at least I hope I made you realize that your parents didn't lie to you. Those fairies they told you about are real and my story is also real. It is just that we are all very different, the same way humans are so different.

There is one more thing you should know, all the fairy tales and "imaginary" stories your parents told you are true. Well, some of them are still true and others were true "once upon a time".

The funny thing is that your parents don't know that, they forgot all that knowledge about magic, maybe around 400 years ago, it could be more, I am not sure. It makes me so sad and hurt that they stopped believing in us, well not all of them but most of them.
