I open my eyes.
It appears that I ended up beside our car. But when I sit up, the left backseat window and door is not opened at all!
'How did I get out here?' I ask myself, emerging from the dense snowbank across from an intense looking crash.
The front of both cars are absolutely demolished. Then I remember.
"Mom!" I yell, scavenging through the rubble to find my family. "Dad!" I shriek "TEDDY!!!" Now I can barely see because of all my tears. My weak muscles can't move anything so I run to my door and open it, seeing if Teddy was still there and didn't fly out the window.
But to my surprise, I see... myself.
I slowly take a few steps back, trying to put this all together. Just then, an ambulance comes racing down the road toward me and I am too startled, I can't move.
But it goes right through me.
Then it stops and three male paramedics come hopping out of the back. Two are getting the stretcher out and the third is on the phone.
What is happening to me? how did that solid car just go right through me? Or -at least- one of me.
"Yes, yes. We need more ambulances ASAP!" I hear him yell through the phone. The female driver jumps out of the driver's side (not bothering to close the door) and sprints to the car and notices that Teddy and I are in there.
She then runs to the man on the phone, grabs the phone and shouts, "There are two children in there! We need rescue helicopters NOW!" She pauses to hear what the other line has to say and continues "I don't care that it is unsafe to fly a damn helicopter in a snowstorm! These kids will never graduate, get married or have children of their own if we don't act now! The more time we waste, the faster they slip away!"
The lady is panting from that marvellous point she just made.
"They are on their way" she told the three men as she hung up.
I run over to the woman and tap her on the shoulder but I get no response. I tap her again, hoping that she just didn't feel it through her thick, navy coat the first time.
I give up after no response and start speaking.
"Umm... excuse me, Mrs.," she continues to help the men with the stretcher that seems to be broken. "Do you know what's happening to me?" I explain everything that happened in the past hour and she is still not noticing me.
I am furious now, so I begin to cry again, but this time out of fear and anger, not disappointment that I could not lift the rubble to find my family.
I yell "What is going on?!" At first I think the lady is finally turning to me, but she is only turning to one of the three men to say something to him.
"The mother and father," she pauses to wipe her tears from her chocolate brown eyes. "Are deceased."
This must be a dream because less than an hour ago we were all having fun in the kitchen. It can't be.
This can't be happening! No! Why our family? Did we do something wrong?
I completely break down in tears and I notice that I cannot feel the snow because I have been bare foot the whole time I've been out here and I am not cold at all.
Will Reid know about this? I am obviously in no state to tell him if nobody can hear me or see me so who will tell him?
The female paramedic pulls me (the one in the car still) out of the non-fixable car and states me unconscious and alive... but not for long. The men put me on a stretcher and shove me into the ambulance, but don't leave. Then she grabs my brother, with some difficulty because his seatbelt is stuck. But when she finally pulls him out... The helicopter is about to land, but it can't. A basket is thrown down.
"Get this boy in the damn helicopter NOW!!!" she demands. "He is unconscious as well, but he is losing blood real quick right now!" The men react quickly and soon my brother is flying up into the helicopter in the basket.
I whisper "Bye, Teddy," and hop into the back of the ambulance, where my body is, and the paramedics drive me and my body away to the hospital.
We never did make it to our Grandparents' house.
