If I Stay (Fanfic)

Chapter 10

Everyone but Reid is sleeping in the waiting room. After all, it is just past midnight. Reid is awake because he is used to sleeping during the day, and playing in the band late at night.

So he just sits in probably one of the most uncomfortable chairs ever, and stares at the ground. He hasn't looked this sad the whole time I've known him.

One of the nurses comes in, breaking me from my daze and starts talking about the crazy day she has had.

She should hear about mine.

When she leaves, I hear some yelling in the waiting room and I turn to see Reid, who's face is red.

"You mean she's all alone?! Where is she going to live?" I hear him say, and I know what he is talking about instantly. I feel so torn I can't even cry.

"With us. We can take care of her." My grandparents offer. "Well, if she wakes up" Gramps finishes, making Gram punch his shoulder. He rubs it, stepping away from her, pretending to be afraid of her.

Even through these rough times, he's still got his sense of humour.

"Well," the man who Reid was yelling at said, "her grandparents are the only ones left in her family who live in the state, so it is only reasonable that they are the legal guardian of Jane."

Gram and Gramps smile cheerfully and turned to where both of my bodies are, although they can't see the one.

"And I highly suggest not telling Jane about any of this all at once." The man said. "It may be too overwhelming for her." My Grandparents nod in agreement.

"When can I see her?" Reid asked the man.

"You should be able to in a few hours." He answered.

Reid just sighed an walked away with his head rested in his hand.

How will I get through all of this without my parents or Teddy? Was I supposed to decide; to live or die? Was that really the question? Is that really what this was all for?

I have made myself dizzy with all these questions. I just need to rest.

I try to clear my head, but I can't! I just can't!

Reid walks through the doors and runs toward my body.

"They let me in Jane!" He tells me. "I only have ten minutes but that is more than enough. I love you, Jane. And I need you, your Grandparents need you, and Kim needs you. Oh, by the way, Kim went home to go get some rest. She said she will be back as soon as she can." I smile.

Reid grabs my hand on my unconscious body and rubs it with his thumb. And for the rest of the time he is allowed in, he just stares at me and tells me that I am beautiful.

I love him so much and it sucks that I can't tell him that right now.
