If I Stay (Fanfic)

Chapter 8

It is dark now and everyone in the waiting room is asleep. They all look so peaceful because they have left all their problems just for a little while.

I can't. Even when I tried to sleep I couldn't.

I think of Reid, who hasn't showed up yet.

Well, to his defence, no one in that waiting room knows about him except for Kim and Chelsea. But, I doubt Kim knows his number or where he lives.

She could message him on facebook, but he is playing a concert for the next three days so I doubt there will be any time for him to answer.

Then one of the nurses comes in, checks my breathing, my heart rate and all that. There are too many different machines to tell which one does what!

So I find myself sitting in this chair still and think about what happened today. It all went by so fast and I realized that dying is easy; living is hard.

Then, I look out the glass wall and see Gram and Gramps (who had obviously just woken up) being led by a nurse to where my bed is.

They both take a seat and I can see they are holding back tears so they can be strong for me.

"Hi," Gramps whispers, shakily. "If you can hear us, we love you so, so much."

"And if you want to let go," Gram starts after she sees that Gramps can't speak anymore, "we aren't stopping you. But, we aren't telling you to leave, we are telling you that this is your choice, and we will be fine with either decision you make."

Gramps wipes his tears away and gains control of himself again.

"Yes, do whatever you think is best for you, not everyone else." Gramps finishes before the nurse tells them to go back into the waiting room.

"We love you Jane," they say in sync as they slowly walk away, as if they were more sad than before.

They just made my decision more complicated.
