A/N: So, a character face change has been made. I loved Rowan Blanchard, and felt that with the road I was going, she was a perfect fit for Lilah in many ways, but she also looks like a baby because she's sweet little Rowan, which would make some of the things that'll be written eventually a little awkward for me to picture! So, alas, Caitlin Carver! If you have read any of my previous works, you would know she is one of my favorite people to have as a face claim, but you don't have to imagine Lilah as her, she's just someone I wanted to choose and yeaaah. But also, Caitlin looks really mature and Lilah's supposed to look like a 16 year old so idkkkkk if you guys have any faceclaims I can use... or I just might get rid of the face claim altogether.

Also, ARE YOU GUYS REAL? LIKE NO ONE COMMENTS. i'm lonely over here writing guys.

I stood in the library, looking at the pictures and memorials they had decorated around the place. I stared at a photo of the Salvatore brothers, my eyes lingering on Stefan for a while. I ended up by the turret I was looking through that night Roman and I talked.

I had a million thoughts going through my mind. What if Hope doesn't survive the binding? Why was I letting her go along with it? Why didn't I say anything about Hayley? I could have helped save her, yet here I was, being useless as ever, like I had always been.

"The whole 'note goes poof in my pocket'?" I heard, and I turned around to see Roman walked towards me, holding the note I sent to him via a witch I had in one of my classes. "It's really kind of an invasion, you know."

"Kind of hypocritical, coming from the guy who keeps breaking into my bedroom," I laughed, folding my arms over my chest.

I couldn't tell whether I liked him better in the Salvatore School uniform, or when he was dressed like a jock. Maybe he looked best when he had his shirt off playing magical soccer on the field with the other boys.

He laughed, and said, "Fair."

I leaned back onto the wall, just looking at him.

"Why'd you want me to meet you here?" he asked.

I shrugged, and sighed. I said, "I dunno... So much is happening right now, and for some reason, you were the person I wanted to talk to."

"Why?" he asked, and I shrugged. So, he said, "Also fair."

"There's this thing that Hope has to do," I said, trying to be as vague as possible as I pushed off against the wall. "And there's a chance it might not end well."

He nodded, looking at me all seriously.

"And I guess I'm just scared to lose my best friend," I explained.

"A 'thing'," he repeated. "That 'might not end well'?"

He walked so that he was sitting on a table top.

"Does this thing have to do with what you, Hope, and her aunt are-"

I cut him off by hugging him, wrapping my arms around his neck and laying my head on his right shoulder. I stood between his legs, just standing there. He stood up, wrapping his arms around my shoulders as I was shorter, and I moved my arms so that they went around his torso, my head now on his chest.

"Okay, didn't really expect that," he said, tightening his grip around me and putting his chin on top of my head. "But also, not surprised since I know you're a hugger."

"I'm sorry if this is weird," I said, muffled by his blazer. "I just don't remember the last time someone held me, and I could really use some holding right now."

"It's okay, I got you," he whispered in a delicate tone, like if he wasn't careful I might break right there in his arms.

"Um... she might die today," I said, pulling away from him to look at his face, but still holding him.

"Okay," he said after a pause, waiting for me to continue as he looked at me with concern in his face.

"It's how we get Hayley back, and I'm just..." I said, choking up and looking away. "I'm so scared."

"Hey, hey," he said, moving his head to try to catch my eyes with his. When I finally looked at him, he put his hands on my cheeks, making sure I didn't stop looking at him. "Everything is going to be okay. Okay? I promise."

I nodded, and he put his hand behind my head, pulling me back into his chest. I wasn't sure why I felt so comfortable around him, but I had. Maybe it had something to do with the whole ancient bad boy vampire vibe he had going, how he had been desiccated before, and he was the first person I met that looked like he was my age that had gone through a similar experience as me. Maybe it was the way his eyes went soft when he looked at me, and I couldn't help but want to be held by him.

My phone started to beep while Roman and I sat in my dorm room. He didn't want me to be alone while I waited to hear from Hope. It was a text from Freya saying that Klaus stopped the binding. I didn't let Roman see the text message as I sat up. The two of us were leaning against my pillows next to one another. I was doing homework, and he was reading a book. The book was in one hand while his other arm was wrapped around my shoulders.

"I need to go check on Hope, okay?" I said, looking over my shoulder at him.

"She's okay?" he asked me, looking up from his book, and I nodded.

He sent me a smile, and said, "I told you everything was going to be alright."

He started to get out of my bed, and I ran a hand through my hair. As he made his way to the door, I called out his name. He turned around to look at me, waiting for me to say something.

"Thank you," I said to him. "For today, and everything since we started talking more, really."

He sent me his little half smile smirk, and walked back towards my head. He put a hand on the back of my head, and leaned down. I was surprised as he planted a kiss on my forehead, but I didn't move away. Instead, I bit my lip and smiled at him when he stood up straight again, and he smiled back.

Maybe with Roman, I wouldn't be a side character in my own life.

"Walk me to the library?" I asked him. "I think Hope's in there."

"Yeah, of course. C'mon."
