"No no. I've known him for years. He can't be the one. He can't do this. He has been framed". I threw my hands frantically annoyed by the information Suzanne had just disclosed.
"Mr. Samael is the school secretary, Skylar. We should have seen that coming. Who better to remain in shades and still spread terror than him?" Suzanne was clearly pissed off by my outburst.
"I still don't believe. Emma would be devastated". I muttered under breath.
"How about we pay him a visit at his favorite sanctuary tomorrow?"
Ryan gave me a cocky smile which I returned with my signature smirk.***
"He already has some visitors I see".
"Perry and Raphael?" It was more of an answer than question.
"And... Adelaide". Ryan added after a dramatic pause.
I plugged in the earpiece before following him down the corridor. Thankfully the whole school were at the local stadium for the baseball match. The broad daylight threatened to reveal our identity and I jumped even at the sight of my own shadow. We were edging towards the office when suddenly the door burst open and Mr. Samael walked out with Perry and Adelaide right at his heels followed by a lagging Raphael. Ryan was quick enough to duck under the stairwell while I stood there awkwardly rooted to my spot.
"Skylar. What are you doing here dear?" I slipped my hands into my pockets to stop them from trembling.
"Sir,I um...needed to um.. submit my assignment".
"Does your assignment vanish in thin air?" Perry snickered playfully in her usual annoying stance. She has always been a clever, manipulative bitch which she thought had made her the gang's favorite but I knew better.
"It's in the pen drive". I voiced sheepishly to earn a chuckle from Perry that made my blood boil.
"Okay,we will then leave you to your work. See you at the match".
I wiped away the sweat cloaking my forehead as I watched them marching out of school.
"Nice save". I nodded in response as I pushed the door walking into the office.
We had been ransacking the room for about the past 20 minutes only to turn out empty handed. I guess finding the Room of Requirements was easier than our current fruitless mission. Ryan accidentally bumped onto the bookshelf that clanked noisily revealing a secret locker carefully concealed behind the shelf.
"Sneaky bastard". He grumbled as he expertly picked the lock of the case.
"Oh my fucking God".
We stared horrors stricken at the vast variety of contents which included guns, drug packets, bank checkbooks, multiple passports and identities, sim cards, pen drives and phones.
"Haul your asses out of the room in 5 minutes". Suzanne's voice rang from the other end.
We immediately sprang into action,Ryan collecting drug samples and taking snapshots of the articles and me copying the information from the pen drives into my MacBook.
"Out now". Suzanne voiced from the other end panicking.
I exchanged a nervous glance with Ryan who was halfway in stuffing the items back into the safe while my screen still depicted Loading 67%.
My heart pounded in ears as I threw prayers to every God I knew in every language possible. I hopefully stared at the screen for some miracle but it still showed Loading 77%."Get out Shucks, right now". The urgency in Suzanne's voice wasn't helping at all and I looked at Ryan to hopefully come up with some miraculous plan.
"You are so damned".
I flickered my gaze anxiously from my lappy showing Loading 98% to the door as footsteps just stopped outside the room. I jumped at the sound of ringtone as I heard a deep "hello" outside the door and I knew my partner was using one of his treasured ability of prank calls. I pulled out my earplugs focusing on the job at hand as I stealthily locked the case as the voice outside grew louder. I braced myself as I jumped out of the window not so elegantly taking Ryan down along with me as we tumbled down the grass and bumped right into a tree that broke our fall.
"Did someone tell you that you're exceptionally heavy?" Ryan panted heavily as he picked himself up from the ground.
"So mean". I grumbled angrily as I threw my laptop bag onto my shoulder and walked out of the school.
"Hey wait,Cupcake". He tried to grab my bag but I neatly dodged his grip.
"Don't touch me".
"You'll beg for more when I do so,baby". He whispered seductively in my ears and I bet my cheeks were blushing pink.
"Narcissistic twat".
The ride back home ended in silence as I was deeply engulfed in my train of thoughts completely ignoring him. I jumped out of the car cradling my bag in my arms not bothering to spare him a goodbye as I had walked out.

The beer can laid untouched on the table as I waited anxiously for the call. With every ticking seconds,I felt my patience giving away and that's when my phone vibrated. I felt my fingers tremble as I picked up it up,my trepidation only to be reduced by a temporary relief.
"Clarissa".
"Anxious?"
"Perhaps". I sighed taking a long sip from the can.
"Not the best time to loose your nerves, child. But that was clever. Sure I underestimated you".
"Meet me in an hour". She chuckled lightly before hanging up.
I was half asleep when my phone rang for the second time that night drawing me out of my slumber.
"Did I just disrupt your beauty sleep?"
The deep male voice echoed from the other end sending shivers down my spine."You're late".
"Were you waiting love? I hoped perhaps you have mastered the ability of being patient".
I cleared my throat nervously before replying. "You've very high hopes".
"Well,we can figure it out over a coffee then".
"That was a huge scandal". I tried hard not to slur my words.
"You seem disappointed,sweetheart".
"Cut it off".
"Curious as always. Get your boy a crimson bow for the Homecoming. I promise you the spotlight 'my knight in Scarlett' ".
"Reminds me of a pending drink". I chuckled dryly before switching off my phone, pulling on my jumper and jogging out of the house. I hoped the night air would drive away my haunting nightmares of Homecoming.
