"That's horrible. It will be a massacre".
"I guess they have 'sky is the limit' as their new motto".
We were peering onto the decoded message — jotting down every minute details. I was too embarrassed to look into his eyes after our hot and wet kiss. We diverted our attention to the decrypted messages from the pen drive. Suzanne was already caught up into verifying the bank details we retrieved earlier.
"What do we know about gray death?"
"Apart for the fact that it's a poisonous drug, m blank".
"We gotta get more information tonight". I cocked my eyebrows looking up at him.
"It's not a normal club".
"I love abnormalities".
"Stubborn".
"Don't worry. I'll protect you baby from all the girls ready to pull down your pants". I winked and he just rolled his eyes.
"9 pm". I threw back a flying kiss before walking back home.

I hated to admit the fact but the very sight of the club scared me. Scent of cheap alcohol and weed floated in the suffocating crowd. I felt a pang of insecurity settle inside me as I followed Ryan in. In my short length black skirt and loose fitted shirt, I suddenly felt overdressed. I took in the half naked girls grinding and rocking across the dance floor. I flinched as a rough hand trailed through my bare shoulder. I wrapped my arms protectively around myself and tried to walk past but another hand grabbed around my waist holding me back. My eyes flew open in surprise. My lips parted to scream when my knight in shining armor decided to rescue me.
"There you are darling". He glared menacingly at my attacker. I felt the hands drawn away and the unknown parasite melt into the crowd.
"You okay?" I nodded faintly. He wrapped his arms around my tensed shoulder and he guided me through the skirmish crowd.
We took the farthest corner of the bar silently sipping our drinking. Ryan's eyes darted across the room searching for his mysterious acquaintance.
"Hey Daniel". I pitched loudly gesturing at the tall brunette who had just staggered out of the dance floor with a bunch of girls trailing behind him.
"Skylar". He frowned as he caught sight of Ryan beside me. But he ignored and hugged me. I could already feel those hot girls glaring at my back.
"Aiden Collins".
"Hey mate".
After a quick hello-hi session, Ryan led us out of that disgusting club. I looked at him curiously. He eyed Daniel before giving me a smug look.
"You two dating? Could've find a better club for your girl, mate".
"No, we ain't dating. We're here for you". I dismissed quickly hopping straight into business.
"She knows Danny. She's helping us".
The silent eye contact between us was enough for me to make the guess that Daniel was indeed Ryan's secret informer. Daniel stared at me for a while before taking the back seat."These people are crazy. If they succeed..".
"They wouldn't". He looked at me amused by my confidence as we drove away from the bar.
"Skylar. What got you into this? You don't look the scary type at all. Here's what you want. Goodnight Buddy. Stay safe, Lark". Daniel handed over the SD card to Ryan before quickly disappearing into the house.
I sighed inwardly as the car drifted through the night air. My eyes caught Vienna's caption on her Instagram story.
"Every soul has a past hidden in darkness,
A present cloaked in secrets,
And the future holds the only truth that cannot be escaped".***
The rain battled heavily on the window as I plopped down lazily on the couch after a heavy training session.
"You sounded so confident declaring our winning chances in this race. Do you really believe it?"
Who would know the outcome better than the one who had portrayed it?
I replaced my thoughts with a cheerful lopsided grin. "Of course. You promised, remember?""I remember you admitting how hot I am". He grinned cheekily flashing his dimples. He caught me staring in the depth of his forest green eyes.
"Reminds me of the asshole that you are".
"You look adorable when grumpy, pinky pants".
"I prefer lousy cornflakes rather than your juicy monlogue".
"Whenever you want cupcake".
"I wish I had an empty stomach".
"Babe, admit it. You find me irresistible".
"I find you nothing better than a walking douche bag".
"The one that holds your heart".
"I would rather die a virgin donating my heart rather than giving it to you".
"You still a virgin kitten?" He looked at me his green ones boring into mine. An amused smile tugged at his perfect lips. "Don't tell me I am the first one you had kissed".
"Unlike you I don't roll into different bed every night". I felt heat rush to my cheeks as I felt his eyes taking me in.
"Are you sure about that cause I feel I have a permanent one now?"
"Seems like a bad habit". I teased him my hands playing with the hem of his collar as I pulled him closer and whispered in his ears.
I uncurled my hands getting up only to be pulled into his arms rather awkwardly. In these were the moments, I felt I could rather inherit my mother's grace. His hands tugged at my tight bun and my brown hairs uncurled as it fell on my shoulder in a mess. He snaked his other hand through my waist drawing me closer. Our faces were inches apart, our lips dangerously close. My heart fluttered crazily. And I felt giving myself away to temptation. He stared into my eyes — those dazzling green ones sharing the same passion as my brown ones.
He quickly bridged the gap and our lips clashed. We greedily savored each other with a strange desperation. My fingers curled into his hairs pulling him deeper as his hands slipped down my back. Had it not been the basic necessity of breathing, I guess the kiss would have lasted for an eternity. His hands brushed through my hairs.
"You are so in love with me Skylar".
I froze in my spot reality knocking away my fantasy as my angel held me entangled in his arms, smirking.
"In your dreams". But my brain was spinning.
***
I was meddled deep into my thoughts when my obnoxious ringtone jolted me out of my trance.
"Should I remind you that love isn't your field of expertise, Kyle".
"Thanks for the reminder".
"I can keep him busy if you want".
"That's a generous offer but I'm capable of dealing on my own. Keep your hands off him".
I rested my head against the cool glass surface as I stared at my own reflection in the mirror of my bedroom. My brain was as foggy as the saturated night air. Except the chocolatey brown eyes that matched my long straight hairs, I barely seemed to recognize myself. I wasn't supposed to fall in love with the enemy. But then breaking the rules was my style.
