"Welcome to the Annual Prize distribution ceremony 2014. Our first category is ..". By the end,I had already bagged 3 champion's and 2 runner up medals, excitement coursing through my veins as people cheered and applauded around me. Vienna bagged a champion's trophy and one runner ups and Emma as usual bagged four champion's medals in sports. She was a real gem in sports.

We settled down for the most important trophy of the year and Mr. Samael, our school secretary took over the stage as Aiden's brown curls disappeared into the crowd. "Without any further delay let's begin students. So,the nomination for the Best School Boy of the Year is:Mr. Raphael West, Mr. Samuel Cooper,Mr. Bradley Jones,Mr. Nicolas Grey and Mr. Aiden Collins".

This boy seriously had some weird magic over everyone. Its been his first year in Wayland and he had already earned a lot of popularity and respect to be nominated for the most prestigious award of the school and I secretly believed he deserved it somehow. Genius!

"The nomination for the Best School Girl of the Year is: Miss Martha James,Miss Skylar Forbes,Miss Nicolas Franklin,Miss Sarah Watson and Miss Vienna Wayland".

Suddenly,I was engulfed in a bone crushing hug before I was pushed onto the stage my heart thumping loud as I tried not to blush. I still couldn't believe my ears.

"Calm down now students. Girls first and the winner is...". After a dramatic pause that lasted for eternity Mr. Samael finally announced loud and clear,"Miss Skylar Forbes and the Winner for boys is Mr. Raphael West".

Vienna squealed in excitement from beside me that was lost midst the loud crowd as we stepped forward to receive our rewards. Excitement made me clumsy as Raphael gently slipped his hand into mine his fingers gripping tightly as we bowed together before the crowd. We received our trophy after all the traditional gratitude speech ceremony and Raphael seemed to be in no mood to let go off my hand and it made me very uneasy.

After an exhausting yet amazing hour,I finally collapsed in my seat beside Vi in our classroom.

"What are you gonna wear tonight?"
Emma passed me a some butter cookies as she asked.

"I will go with ripped jeans and..".
The girls kept bragging on their dressing choices while I thought of something decent to wear not that I had a lot of choices though. The last bell rang knocking off the arguments.

"See u guys at the party".

"7 pm sharp".

"Wear some make up Sky".

"Call if u want a lift."

And with that we parted for home quickly except me of course. The thought of returning home made me sick but I had nowhere else to go.
I dragged myself lazily through the empty streets, the summer sun shining overhead but my mind was so preoccupied with the excitement of the day that I barely noticed the shops by the road. Martha might be clearly displeased. The school was a 10 mins walk from home but most of the days I reached late often stopping by Martha's bakery to lend her a hand. I knew these people more than I would ever know about my mother.

The front door revolted noisily as I tried to shut it. Raven came out wagging its bushy brown tail and I picked it up into my lap when I sensed the presence of someone else in the room.

"I made your favorites. Come down quickly, sweetheart". My mother smiled leaning onto the kitchen door as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Her smile seemed so ghost like and the thought of her cooking lunch for me seemed so foreign.

I sat down on my bed that creaked heavily under my weight and Raven jumped into my lap. My pet dog was the only thing that made feel at home. I placed down my prizes onto my bed and stared at it as the setting sunlight crept in through the window making the trophies gleam brightly. A proud smile slipped through my lips my fingers gently probing through the Best Girl tag. I gently placed it beside the old and only photograph of me,Josh,Dad n Mum. Through the tattered edges of the photograph of my past mocked me. I was 11 years old and Josh 14 and 4 years from then things have gone downhill taking away every bit of happiness leaving behind just some wrecking memories. We looked so happy together as a family and I remember Dad buying me Raven just on our way back from our holiday trip to London. Things would never be the same again. I shook off those haunting feelings and walked into the dining room to see her waiting for me.

My stomach growled at the smell of food but I hardly ate anything. Rather I felt curious about her sudden generosity. "What is so special about today? What am I missing?"

"May be we can get along better and become a family again darling".

"Its too late to try anything. Thanks for the food anyway. I'm not hungry".
I felt anger fume inside me as I kicked back my chair and left the room.

"Sky,please come back. I'm really sorry. Sky..".

Her voice calling my name just drove me mad. I had grown used to the emptiness of this house so much that I could barely stand the offer of being a family again from someone who carelessly tore it apart.
