"I'm sorry."
He looked hurt beyond words and it broke me inside.
"Why?"
The whisper was barely audible, my mind straining to make out the word.
"I'm.. I'm in love with someone else.."
He nodded, his eyes to the floor.
"I just need to know one thing.."
I nodded with a hum, my eyes falling to the ground as well.
"Did you ever love me?"
I looked up at him with sad eyes.
He didn't return the gaze, eyes squeezing shut as he awaited my answer.
I did love him, but not in the way my heart thought I did.
He was my way of trying to move on from Sam, that obviously failing.
"Yeah.. I do. But not in the way I thought I did."
He nodded and turned around, walking away from me.
I sighed and nodded to myself.
I hurt him and this time I can't fix it.
