We dreamed a wish upon the tide
That our little one would not hide.
He’d grow and love, and be so strong,
And learn to choose right from wrong.
We dreamed of days without an end;
Of sturdy homes that would not bend.
Protection for our sweet little child,
That would guard him from the wild.
We dreamed of a life of adventure and fun,
And plenty of friends for our little one.
Joyful laughter, gentle love,
All saved for him by God above.
We dreamed of seeing him grow to a man,
And that you could one day shake his hand.
That he would be strong, and steady, and true,
And that he would one day not lean on you.
We dreamed you’d wait until his future was sure,
Until you knew that he’d be safe and secure.
But now you’re gone. We’re left alone,
Though we know that you’ve only gone home.
We dreamed once that you could depend
On me to be a solid, true blooded friend.
Well, I’ll be here to help him through,
But my dear friend… I can’t replace you.
