Some hearts shelter from winter storms
And hide from the icy blast
Of love's first frigid death.
Some hearts cry out in sorrow
As love's soft breath
Fades to nothing.
Some hearts freeze under the pressure
Of half-hearted promises
And horrid lies.
Some hearts wither into nothing
As they cease their beating
And their joy petrifies.
Some hearts break and shatter,
Leaving nothing but a lifeless shell
For others to shred apart.
But not mine.
