We had been 1 hour into our 1 hour and a half drive. The whole time there we jammed out to good music and laughed. There even was a moment where there was nothing but pure silence except the sound of the car gliding along the road and the cool breeze out the window.
For the first time ever, I had felt genuinely happy even with everything that has been going on because in the end, I knew I did what I had to do. It was either kill or be killed. But there was one thing that worried me more than anything.
"Maya what are you thinking about?" He turned to me.
"N-nothing. Just a lot on my mind."
He placed his hand on mine. "Tell me."
"What's going to happen to you Asa? You know the police will eventually find me."
"Maya. There's no mention of me on the news. I'll be fine. Don't worry about me. And we're going to do everything we can to keep you out of the police's sight. Where we're going now is somewhere safe and around people we can trust."
I pulled away abruptly. "Wait you told your friends what happened?"
"No, I mean here they don't know what's been going on. I just told them you and I are in town. That's all."
I sighed of relief. "Okay. Good."
He patted my hand and smiled.

We pulled up to a 2-story, light blue colored house. It was exceptionally new and had two cars parked in front of it- one dark blue and the other white.
"We're here." Asa stepped out and headed towards the door. He rang the doorbell and a tall, slightly tan, dark/curly haired boy stepped out and greeted him. Not going to lie though, he was cute. Asa gestured for me to step out and go meet the boy.
"Hi, I'm Maya." I self-consciously smiled. His eyes immediately lit up.
"Ashton. I'm a friend of Asa's." He replied with a smirk. He told me how close he and Asa were when they were younger and how he'd spend most of his days after school over at Ashton's house so he was pretty close with his younger sister and older brother as well-who also lived with him currently.
We went inside and he showed us our room. Ashton had continuously tried to flirt with me and it got me curious whether or not Asa had told him that we were dating.
Wait.. are we even dating? We are, right?
I tried brushing off his flirtatious gestures and kept noticing Asa wasn't even aware of it.
Ashton loved cooking so he had dinner prepared for us. We were having lobster bisque soup with pita bread. I was surprised at how good of a cook he was.
"This is all very fancy, but I don't know, my instant cup noodles are pretty damn good." I joked.
Everyone laughed and Ashton grabbed my plate to pour me some more. "There's more where that came from."
After dinner, it was family game night at the household so we all gathered around the living room table to play Cards Against Humanity. Ashton sitting to my left and Asa on my right. I kept scooting closer towards Asa and having my arm wrapped around his so he'd get the hint.
After about 5 rounds, I needed a break so I headed upstairs to my room. I crashed on the bed and lay there.
"Knock Knock." I heard someone softly say.
