“Welcome, dear. So glad you could make it,” a dark voice said.

I reached for my dog tags on my neck, they weren’t there.

“Don’t bother with your weapons. You will only be here a short time, as Lord Zeus directed me.” The voice said again.

The strange voice seemed to come from everywhere. As if there were speakers throughout the room.

“Where am I?” I asked.

“You and I are going to have a short talk,” it said again, ignoring my question. “Uncle to niece.”

Then I realized who I was talking too. “I’m in the Underworld aren’t I?” I sighed.

A figure stepped out of the shadows. I knew immediately who it was. The lord of the Underworld, god of wealth and death, also known as my uncle Hades.

The Underworld was pretty nice, except the screaming of the poor tortured souls in the Fields of Punishment, and having zombies serve you dinner. It wasn't the zombies I was scared of, it was their hands. I mean who knows the last time they washed their hands. Disgusting!

Anyway, I was wanting to know why uncle Hades called me to the Underworld. Was it him that knocked me out?

“You are probably wondering why you are here. The answer is, your other uncle, Zeus. He told me to tell you that he and Poseidon are going to war.” Hades told me, then took a sip of a red liquid that looked like blood. And knowing Hades, it probably was blood.

“Why are they going to war? What could possibly have made them that mad?” I exclaimed.

“You,” he said plainly.

“Me? How? What? Why me?”

There was thunder in the distance. “Zeus calls me back. I must obey his wishes. Good luck, Pearl.” And with that he turned into dust and left.

I woke up to see the ceiling of the Poseidon cabin. I heard some voices nearby. I tried to move, but everything hurt. Especially my head. I just closed my eyes and focused on the voices.

“Do you have any idea what happened?” One of them asked. I recognized it immediately. It was Chiron.

“I have no idea.” A male voice said. “ I had a strange feeling then a skeleton popped out of nowhere and hit her in the back of the head. But it wasn’t me. It was probably my father.”

I wanted to yell out that he was right and the message he gave me. But I couldn’t. My body hurt too much.

“What would your father want with my sister?” Percy asked.

“I don’t know.” The male voice said “Chiron, do you have an idea?”

“For once, I do not.” Then I heard clip-clops and footsteps headed for my bed. I felt someone sit on the end of my bed and take my hand. They squeezed it.

“I hope she wakes up soon.” I slowly opened my eyes. I saw Percy’s worried face in front of me. Behind him I saw Chiron and a boy about 14.  They hadn’t noticed that I was awake, so with as much energy I could muster, I squeezed Percy’s hand back. He quickly turned to look at me.When He saw my eyes were open, his smile widened.

“Pearl! Thank the gods you’re alright. What happened?” I looked at them, and tried to speak, but I still felt really weak.

“Percy, I don’t think she is strong enough. Whatever happened, it took a lot of energy out of her.”
