The three of us were up on top the hill Clementine had invited Shane and me to. The girl had let Shane go ahead and sleep inside the makeshift tent she made earlier that day while Clementine and I sat around a small fire looking over at the tent Shane was in.

"So..." Clementine rolled her head over to look at me, her face was curious as her golden eyes stared straight at me. "You're not really his brother, are you?" She finally said I'm a quiet voice. I looked over at the girl who sat a few inches away from me and smiled "I'm not... but, his family took me in when all this started, so, I'm kinda like a stepbrother." I replied looking over at the tent again and smiling. "And his parents?" Clementine curiously questioned. I looked down and sighed at the thought of it. "His dad... his dad got bit out on a supply run a few days before Shane was born." I solemnly spoke these words and they hurt. It happened a long time ago, but still.

Clementine looked away her eyes looked up at the stars. "And his mom?" She bravely said. I continued to look at the ground, not knowing if I could even say what I did.... "she ran the community, Oakland. She was pretty good at it too, helped with the military Elite program and did community work for families in need." I said looking over at the girl who was now looking at me to. "She was a great mom. She took me in after my family shoot out." I laughed nervously "but then..." I lost my smile and looked away "some a class ass holes decided that our community was not good for humanity and let walkers in. Killed the kids at the gate and anyone else in the range of a bullet. Shane and she got cornered and I helped get them in, but I was too late... I ended up having to put a bullet through her head."

I felt the dawn of guilt crawl over my skin, I never told Shane why I shot her. But, I'm pretty sure he knows why now.

I looked over at Clementine who also now looked down at the ground. "I had to shoot my friend Lee... he protected me when all this started, but then he got bit. The same day I also figured out my parents were dead." She spoke sadly and looked up at me "but we don't give up... we have to fight for them." Clementine looked over at the tent and smiled. "I had a kid with me. About 2 years old. But the New Frontier took him from me, but I'll find him." She said smiling.

This girl has obviously been through a lot, she had scars and bruises. She was like nothing I've seen before. "Well, best we head to sleep. Got to go in the morning." Clementine smiled and stood up, waving me towards the tent Shane was in. I stood up and followed the girl.

------(3-week time skip)-----
Shane and I ended up staying in Prescott for a few weeks. It was a pretty nice town, somewhat friendly folks. We haven't forgotten about the mission we were on, I just wanted to give Shane some time to feel like a kid again...

"Hey, Clem? You in here?" I slowly creaked open the bar door. It was night and most of everyone in town was asleep. Conrad and Francine looked away from their card game to look over at me. "Well hey, Hugo!" Conrad waved me into the barroom that was strong with the smell of liquor. Francine drew out a card that made Conrad laugh a bit, I didn't understand card games. They seemed pointless to me. "Clem left here a few minutes ago to go after you and your boy," Francine said softly as she waited for Conrad to make his turn. I nodded and got out a small "ok." I put my hands in my pockets and walked up to the counter. Conrad's gaze shot over to me "you want something, don't you?" He said with a smile creeping onto his face. Francine gave him a dirty look as he reached under the counter and grabbed a bottle.

"Oh don't Francine! It's the end of the world! This kid deserves a drink or 2." The man laughed as he placed a cup and bottle on the bar. I smiled nervously as I picked up the cup the man had just poured whiskey into. I've drunk before, so it was nothing new. I swiftly drank the liquid like it was nothing, I needed something like that after everything these past few months. I just couldn't bring myself to drink in front of Shane. I took another shot and stoped, I didn't want to be drunk. Conrad laughed and put the bottle back under the counter and smiled at Francine, but she just shook her head.
