Stepping out of the lift and into the hallway on Saturday, I smiled to myself. Who would've thought Eunji to have such a great idea? And on the best timing as well? I really needed to thank her somehow.
I pushed the key into the lock and opened my door, just as my next-door neighbor opened his.
- So. – he started, leaning against his threshold. – I was thinking pizza tonight. Maybe a movie or something? – he was babbling. – I'm not in the mood to go out.
- Hi, Jeon. Good afternoon to you too. I'm fine, thanks for asking. – I mocked as he rolled his eyes. – And yeah, that sounds good. I'll just be a minute.
Jungkook nodded and went into his apartment, as I entered mine. Leaving my bag on the couch, I moved to my room and shed my clothes, intent on taking a shower first. I tried not to take too long, dressing quickly in jeans and a t-shirt right after.
After wearing a pair of flats, that were the first things I found, I locked my door behind me and stepped into the apartment across the hall. Yeah, I had a key to Jeon's apartment and he had a key to mine. Just in case of emergencies.
Yeah, right.
Locking his door, I turned to find the living room empty. I ventured into the space, heading to his bedroom on silent feet. The door was gaping open and just as I stepped inside, Jungkook came out of his bathroom wearing only a towel around his hips. Water running down his torso, wet hair clinging to his cheeks.
Breathe, Hana. Breathe.
Upon seeing me there, Jungkook didn't even blink, heading for his dresser and opening the drawer as if I wasn't there. I stayed glued to the ground and unable to move as he collected the navy blue boxers, dropped the towel and stepped into them.
Right there in front of me.
I could feel my body betraying me, wanting so bad to go back in time and never have that conversation with him. Wanting to take the steps that separated us now and reach him, touching him and knowing he would touch me in return. Wanting to feel the heat of him as his skin moved against mine.
No, no. Stop. Control yourself.
As I fought an internal battle, the man kept moving around his space, thank God putting a t-shirt on with a pair of shorts. Drying his hair with another towel and running his fingers through it as my throat still felt dry.
- Hana? – looking up at the sound of his voice, I found him looking at me concerned. – Are you okay?
- Y-yea ... Hmm. Yeah, fine. – I mustered, after clearing my throat a couple of times.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Walking out of the bedroom, Jungkook went to get it as I went into his bathroom and splashed some water on my face, trying to cool off the heated skin.
This is what you wanted, Hana. Focus on the objective.
Taking a deep breath for good measure, I walked into the living room as he put the pizza box on his coffee table and grabbed the remote to choose a movie. I settled beside him on the couch, taking a slice of the cheesy delight in front of me and chewing as he made his choice.
We ate and watched the movie in silence for a moment. There was a certain peace in being with Jungkook like this. No words were needed. It wasn't awkward to just sit there and relax after a tiring day. It felt right.
It was almost too good to break the moment.
But we needed to talk.
- I went on a date today. – I blurted, biting another piece of pizza and chewing absently as the man beside me paused for a second. If I hadn't been paying attention, I would've missed it.
- Oh? – was his brilliant comeback.
- Yeah.
- So, uhm. How was it? – he asked, finishing his slice and turning to face me, the movie forgotten on the screen.
- It was good. It's okay, we don't have to go into details.
He just lifted a brow at me.
- Isn't it weird to talk about this?
- Because we had sex in more surfaces in this apartment and the one across the hall than I can count? – he questioned, relaxing against the cushions and looking at me. – We are friends, remember? They talk about this sort of thing.
I eyed him dubiously, but started talking nonetheless.
- His name is Jimin, and he is just ... there isn't a word for it. – I said, daydreaming a little. – He's kind, attentive and generous. He can be cheesy sometimes, but that's just part of his charm. And physically he's ... well, never mind. – I corrected myself. – You can say I like what I see.
- Uhum. What did you two do?
- We met two days ago. My friend Eunji introduced me to him. Apparently, she knows his brother or something. She gave him my number and we went out for lunch today.
We stayed quiet for a moment. Me, trying to determine if it was a good idea to just drop it on Jungkook like that. Him, most likely trying to make sense of my words and what they meant.
- Are you seeing him again? – he asked, looking back to me.
- I guess. – I answered, laying my head back on the couch, but ending up with it against Jungkook's arm. – We didn't plan anything yet, but I want to. I like him.
- Well, good luck.
I eyed him sideways, but Jungkook only tightened his arm around me, placing my head on top of his shoulder as his attention focused back on the TV. Choosing not to look for something that wasn't there, I snuggled against him and did the same.
I liked Jimin, I really did. But right at that moment, as Jungkook held me against him and ran his hand up and down my arm absently, I wondered if I wasn't making a huge mistake.
