My body was present but my mind was absent as I walked down the simple stretch. The calm, fall wind blew through me as I approached the very familiar location only 3 feet away from me. It was a cloudy day, the sky as grey as the concrete that was covered in scattered dead leaves. A sigh left my lips as I entered the familiar café like I always did on a typical Friday. I considered it like a second home to me prior to how often I came here, my usual days were a Friday and/or Saturday depending on how busy I was with work and music. I, however, would sometimes come multiple times a week if I ever needed to just get away from my family, friends, work or all of the above.

I valued my alone time as much as I valued company... just maybe a little more.

Don't get me wrong, I love my friends and family but being around them 24/7 would bring me to complete insanity. KeKe's was like an escape for me.. a place of replenishing and re-energizing whenever life drained me or left me flustered throughout the week.

The ringing of the bell above the glass door brought me back to reality as I entered the threshold of the café. The smell of vanilla and coffee bean hit me immediately as I observed the normally quiet area. It was a very small, simple and delicate restaurant, never very busy around these hours because normally people are in-and-out as they have to report to work and school. Plus it is only 11AM by the time I arrive.

The restaurant had a sort of grey and white theme with lilies all around the restaurant to give a healing vibe and tranquil aura to the restaurant, it was like a vast therapy session just being in here.

"Rem, welcome!" Joy shouted as she approached me in her white shirt and black slacks that had her apron tied around the waist. I shot an instant smile back at her before pulling her into a hug. I was such a regular at this place that every staff member knew me by name and face, if they were new, they found out quick as well.

"The usual?" She asked with her notepad and pen ready with a big smile as I nodded and watched her playfully roll her eyes. "Of course. I'll have it ready for you in just a bit, hun." She said as she walked to the back.

Joy was 46 but looked and acted 20. She was ageless and like fine wine, got better with time. Her fair complexion was full of light and love, you could see the happiness radiate from her skin. Not a wrinkle was in sight nor any grey hairs, none that I could see at least. Joy was very short as well, and coming from me and my 5'2 frame, that's a shocker. She was a very loving and accepting woman of all people which I believe contributes to life treating her well; she's very educated, wise and funny.. nothing but positive vibes when you're in her company.

I sat at my usual table which was by a window with a vase of lilies in the center. First time I discovered this place I sat here and continued to ever since.. growing a love for the overview of not only the inside of the restaurant but also the outside.
