Fox's P.O.V.
When we returned, I was very surprised. In the waiting room was Zaastaish, and all the little kids in the room--that included the random toddlers who's guinea pigs ate batteries--and was playing dolls with trucks. He was grinning and speaking right now, a tiny plastic dinosaur in his hands, and he made a roar. It was adorable. And, also, confusing. You don't see someone wearing black leather who seemingly is serious, playing with dolls and enjoying it.
He looked up when he finished speaking, and the other kids began to move dolls and trains around. His smile grew and he waved before turning around and talking to the kids. From here, you could hear them all moan in sadness. We were almost two rooms away. He stepped away and walked over, his grin replaced with a look of worry. "So...is she okay?"
I shook the look of surprise from my face, and replied, "Yup. A few hours, and she'll be fine."
"Until then, we wait?" he asked, and it was then I realized he had an accent. I hadn't noticed it before, but now I do. I shrugged. "We could also try and get some food."
"McDonalds?" he offered, and I cocked my head. "Who's McDonald?"
"You...don't know what McDonalds is?"
"Hey, we've been living in the middle of a forest our whole lives. The only store we've heard if is Walmart."
"Oh. Well, it's fast food. Très délicieux, in my opinion."
"Fast food?"
His jaw slackened a little. "Okay. All of you follow me. And you." he pointed to my sister. "Will oblige, or I will tie your hair over your mouth again."
My sister cares too much for her own well being to speak. He turned back to the kids and told them we had to go. We walked from the pet hospital, following where Zaastaish went. Quill seemed to know what Zaastaish was talking about, but the rest of us were clueless. Uanai pranced into a store with a red roof and a yellow M. Zaastaish ushered us into two booths, and went under a sign that said order here. And we waited as he spoke. And waited.
When he finally came back, he was balancing four trays on his arms. There were french-fries and small boxes that smelled delicious. And some drinks. He handed them out before sitting down across from my sister, Quill and I. Beside him Uanai took a burger from the box and began to gobble it up, and when Dyl opened hers she got chicken nuggets instead.
"Ça te plait? The food, I mean." Zaastaish asked after we began eating. I nodded, shoving the whole burger in my mouth. I could sense my sister's disgust, but honestly I didn't care anymore. She was horrible, and I would only be nice to her if she did anything nice to...anyone.
I looked out the window for absolutely no thinkable reason and saw the sun setting. It had taken us quite awhile to get here--in the town, I mean--and now the sun was filtering through the glass. Suddenly in the booth beside us, Lucifer and Mayson shrieked, "The sun is too bright! Turn it off!"
Half-vampires. Am I right?
Yeah my jokes suck that's why Sketch is the funny one.
Zaastaish burst into laughter, and I had no clue why. "Tu es drôle, juste quand tu ne veux pas. Très drôle, en fait." He said quickly.
"I didn't take French in high school. Nor did I go to high school. What did you just say?" I asked, hoping Lucifer and Mayson will be fine. With the other parts of them, they should be able to withstand the sun. I raised their joy levels slightly. It makes them oblivious to a lot of things.
"I...ah, nothing. I can read minds if I chose to. Difficult, yes, but I can."
"Wait, if you have powers and everything why not just take us to Arizona?" Arctica asked through a mouthful of chicken nuggets.
Hypocrite. Getting disgusted of me eating burgers whole when she's talking with her mouth full.
Zaastaish flinched, and I sat up straighter. He was tense, with fear and anxiety. I made him relaxed, calm. I did the same to Uanai, who was now trembling. Whatever they had been through was horrible.
"We are bound to the Hunters, our powers only obeying them."
"Then how can you hide your wings and tie my hair? You can do magic and--"
"That is basic survival stuff. At least, the first one. How I tied your hair is a mystery even to moi." he interrupted firmly. Seems like he isn't the only nice person getting mad at Arctica.
Speaking of whom, she frowned and opened her mouth to speak, but Dyl shoved fries into Arctica's mouth before any words were uttered. Then I felt something hit my foot, and I looked under the table. It was Dyl's foot. My eyebrows raised when I realized she was doing footsie with Uanai. I hope they don't know they're flirting.
"Kitty will be okay, right?" Zaastaish asked, and Quill nodded quickly. He was drowsy, but shoving gummy worms in his mouth as if he hasn't eaten in years. He was clearly stress-eating, though he'd never admit it. I didn't even know he stress-ate. Does he stress eat? Al of us are acting out of character anyway, so maybe he doesn't stress eat...
"Can we get Kitty now?" Ferrin asked. I looked to the clock by the entrance. We should have the ability to have her now. Oh, frack. The bill.
We all finished up and went back to the animal hospital. Quill went to get Kitty because my sister and I couldn't walk through narrow hallways that easily. He returned, holding her. She was sleeping, adorably. My sister tugged on me, dragging us away. "Wait, we have to pay--"
"We don't exist on any records. And they can't track us, can they? Hurry!" she whispered, and dragged me outside. Everyone followed, and we broke out into a run into the woods. "If we get arrested, I'm blaming this entirely on you!" Quill shouted as we ran across the highway.
Yup, totally safe.
When we were deep in the forest, we finally stopped. We were all tired, even if we had all slept an entire twenty-four hours last 'night'.
Quill set Kitty down, where she lay. Her almond-dipped tail flicked from side to side every once and a while, and she was purring. A dream? I searched for her mood. Happy, giddy. Overjoyed. I could only imagine what she was dreaming about.
