Worse Than Kitty

                                           Fox's P.O.V.

I knew something was off when my sister began to smile. I ignored her, though. Kitty had just had a mental breakdown, and none of us knew why.

Until now, actually.

"He--he--he was digging! Inside of him...taking him...Sketch was bleeding...so bad... and--and--and he smiled at me and then he screamed and...they kept cutting...Sketch is dying, Sketch is dying...he's dying..." she rambled, shaking back and forth.

Holy fricking crap.

I sent a burst of reassurance toward her, and she wiped her eyes. "I had to have been seeing things. He's okay...he's okay..."

Everyone looked to me, knowing I made her stop crying, and I didn't feel guilty at all. If we were going to save him, we all needed the mental capacity to handle what might be there. Yeah, I sound like an army leader, but Kitty crying is a lot more depressing than her being a depressed kitten.

"So, I can't drive because I'll pass out on the wheel. Hey, Zaastaish, how old are you?" Quill asked, looking to my newfound friend. Zaastaish cocked his head. "I'm seventeen. In mortal years, anyway. I'm around a millennia, but Jinn age slower."

"Welp, you're over qualified. You're the new driver. Okay, who wants to sit with Kitty?"

Everyone raised their hand, surprisingly. I did too, just to spite my sister. I would never be ale to share a seat with anyone but her, ever. But I knew this would make her burn. And it did, I could feel it. She glared out the window, but still a smile still lingered. Now I was scared.

"Uh, okay. The cuddliest of you guys will get to sit with her." Quill said to all the raised hands. Hailey beamed and was handed to Kitty, who crawled into the back of the van. Lucifer and Mayson sat in the seat beside her, Andre sat with Quill in front of them, Uanai and Dyl sat beside them, Ferrin beside me and Arctica, Zaastaish sat in the driver's seat, staring blankly at the wheel. There was now an empty seat in the front.

Then we shot off. Backwards. Zaastaish slammed on the brakes, and put the car into drive instead of neutral, and then we inched forward slowly, making us all anxious. Then we heard them.

Police sirens.

Zaastaish floored the gas and drove faster than Kitty had--wow, surprising--and slid through cars. Everyone was gripping their seat so not to fly forward when he slammed on the brakes at a stoplight.

"We are already being chased by the police! You don't need to follow some frickin' traffic laws!" Arctica snapped, and I'm pretty sure the whole car agreed with her.

"But--but--tout foutre, let's go!" he shouted, and I saw Uanai's eyes widen. I don't think his brother said anything polite about the weather.

Then we were flattened against our seats as traffic was a blur on both sides. "You're worse thank Kitty!" Quill shouted when Zaastaish opened a window for some strange reason. Now wind was through out hair wildly about, blowing past our ears and getting very hard to communicate. Then Zaastaish closed the window again, muttering in French. Uanai's eyebrows rose higher until he decided to start a conversation.

"So! Anyone care to learn French?"

"Teach me the cure words and then I'll learn the rest." Kitty called from the back, making me sigh. Sad thing is, it's true. She learned Japanese, English, Portuguese, and ASL that way. Why or how, I will never know.

"Uh...Maybe not...So, ah, how about....we play MadLibs!" Uanai tried again, and Quill already had his phone out. Then everyone in the car went around saying words, and then the final MadLib came. My favorite part was probably this: "Watch where you're dying!" scolded mother. It was really funny.

Everyone seemed to calm down, especially Kitty. Thing is, we were still being chased by the cops, so I'm pretty sure the tension I was feeling was not from Quill passing out in the middle of our second MadLib. Zaastaish began to sing a French song, over and over, until we all knew the song. By then, we'd made it to the border of Pennsylvania, which is saying a lot because we were just in New York City.

Then Zaastaish finally decided that he had money and pulled into a motel. He pulled a wad of money out from nowhere, and we got a room.

A room. Meaning one. Uno. SINGULAR. For about thirteen people and a cat, depending if said cat wanted to be human or not. In how many beds?

Zaastaish opened the door with the newfound key, and I resisted the urge to hit my head on the wall. Two beds. A bathroom. Nightstand. Floor. Lamp. Swivel chair. Nothing else.

"How did you even get enough money for this?" Quill asked groggily, and Zaastaish reddened. "I--um...You see, it's something called pick-pocketing. Do not worry, I will replace it when I get my powers back. I never forget a face." he promised us, and I was surprised. Zaastaish sure looked like someone who'd pick-pocket, but he sure as heck didn't act like it. He seemed really into happy fuzzy warm things like unicorns.

"So...where are we all sleeping?"

"I GET THE SWIVEL CHAIR." Kitty proclaimed, shifting into cat form and leaping onto it. She was literally asleep as soon as she closed her eyes. Zaastaish looked at the two beds. "The kids can get one and a half beds, and then you guys can have the other half. I'll sleep...somewhere."

"Can't you make an invisible hammock?" Arctica asked. For someone we all disagree with, she sure does ask things that we can all agree to.

Zaastaish smiled. "Those were spider webs."

Suddenly we were all hyper-aware of the tiny corners in the room.

"I think I'll go to the bathtub--" he began to leave, but I grabbed his hand and cut him off by saying, "You can have some of our pillows and sleep on the floor. It's better than cramming next to us, and even better than a bathtub that has only seen feet and butt."

"I--ah, okay. As long as you guys will be fine." he said reluctantly.

"I would offer my place, but my sister here would complain all night." I nudged Arctica in the ribs, and she glared at me.

"I would never accept your place, Renard Rouge."

"Then I guess we would have been both be sleeping on the floor, but again, I'm attached to a beautiful face. Oh, and my sister."

I heard a snort from Kitty, and I was beginning to think she wasn't actually asleep. Arctica opened her mouth, but then closed it after taking a glance at Kitty.

And then I knew something was up. I just should have paid more attention, because we would all pay for it dearly.
