Chapter 17

Austin's POV

I was sitting out in the hallway playing with Hunter.

Thinking.

I always seem to think about the worst things in life at the worst times.

I need to think of things that will make everything go away.

I want to be happy.

I want Elaine to be happy.

I want Kate to be happy.

I want Hunter to be happy. Why can't everyone be happy, and nothing in life ever bother us again?

Why?

I was sitting there, thinking what would happen to everyone when we leave here.

When we go home.

Not to the condo home.

But home home.

In Texas.

I can't control whats gonna happen.

I wish I could, but that just isnt how it works.

I all of the sudden felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.

I reached into my pocket, struggling to pull it out.

Once i got the phone out of my pocket I looked at the number not knowing the unknown number.

I slid my finger across the screen opening the text and read the message.

"Be at 15569 Eastwood Dr. in three hours, or your sweet and precious little Elaine and hunter wont be safe. Come alone. XOXO -t"

Wait, "t?" who in the world would that be?" I chose not to worry about it.

I knocked on the door to the room and slowly walked in.

I inched closer to Elaine, Kate, and Hunter.

Kate was crying and Elaine had tears brimming in her eyes.

Hunter just sat on a chair in the corner of the room playing with a train and a book and eating some popcorn I think.

The doctor came in a few seconds after I shut the door with a clipboard of papers and a pen.

He was flipping through the papers when he walked in.

A nurse quietly followed behind him.

"Well, Elaine. Have you made your decision yet?" The doctor asked.

She quietly nodded her head.

"Ye- Yes sir." She said in a barely audible voice.

"I want to say my goodbye's first." She said.

"Certainly." Said the doctor as him and the nurse were starting to turn off all of Elaine's monitors and pull the needles out of her skin.

"Well, the good thing is that your dree to go. You have a perscription or two that you need to take. Just once a day, in the morning. It's not that bad. just go to the pharmacy side of the medical tower and ask the for it, they already have it, just say your name and youll be good to leave." He said placing a perscription paper on the little side table.

The nurse handed Elaine her clothes and told her that she could change.

I helped Elaine stand up and help her walk to the bathroom.

Once she was changed, we got everything together and we put her in a wheelchair and wheeled her down to her dads room.

I rolled her in the room and stopeed her right next to her dads body and I slowly turned and started walking towards the door.

I already heard her sobbing, "Will you please stay in here Austin?" She quietly whispered between sobs.

I turned back around and knealed down next to her.

"Why did he have to go like this?" She asked, tears brimming in her eyes.

"I guess its just what happened, if I could've stopped it I would, but you never know what can happen, and we can't control it. If we could control it, I wouldn't want anyhting like this to ever hapen." I told her. 

She picked up her fathers hand and put it in hers.

"I don't know how I'm going to get through this without him. Why him? Why now? Why?" She said between sobs.

I didn't know how to answer her. 

So I didn't. 

I just sat beside her as she cried. 

I was rubbing small circles on her back trying to comfort her as much as I could. 

I watched the clock on the wall tick as everysecond went by and by. 

"Elaine?"

She looked  up at me with sad eyes.

"Ye- Yeah..?" She asked.

"I think I'm gonna leave and let you sit here for a few minutes with Kate. I'll watch Hunter, and let him come in in a few, okay?" I said. 

She just nodded her head and I slowly stood up walking towards the door. 

Before I walked out, I turned around and said, "I love you Elaine." in a barely audible whisper.

She replied, "I love you too Austin." with some shock in her tone of voice.

And with that I walked out the door and picked up Hunter and let Kate go in.

Hunter looked up at me with sad eyes.

"Daddy?" He asked..
