"Another detention. What were you thinking?" Blue eyes became beady as they looked on the pale girl. "I am," silence ensued as a frail hand rose to signal the time to stop. Long pondering fingers stretched to his temples in hopes of easing the growing headache. "It is nearly Christmas and yet you have achieved the status of getting in more trouble than the Weasley twins ever have." Shoulders slumped in shyness and hair played the usual role of curtains.
Slightly disheartened a small dot left the office in search of a boy who was all to blame. The halls grew cold as her steps made contact. Few faces appeared but even Filch kept quiet as she passed, clearly on her way to bed. All adults knew of the old man's disappointment towards her actions. "Mathew I will make you pay." Sheepish looks made a few appearances as the young boy tried to not look scared. "W-what is it?" Visible gulps made Islay know that he was terrified.
"I have had a detention almost every night because of you. Not once have I ever actually deserved one of them. You are the one that destroyed the Slytherin common room. You are the one that let the rodents into the kitchen. Why did I get in trouble? Because I am stupid enough to warn you when I know that a professor is on their way to catch you. Then, when I warn you, you worm out of it and I am too loyal to tell them the truth. I was blamed for something you did whilst I lay helpless in the infirmary. Why was I in the infirmary? Because of you. Before it was annoying but now you have made my father disappointed in me. You are going to pay." Few students filled the common room but not a single one of them knew what to do. Percy sat unsure if he should make her go to bed or to just sleep himself. One thing was evident though. She was beyond angry. Rage flooded her blood and Islay couldn't calm herself down in time as Mat found himself launched across the room and landing with a crack.
No remorse left Islay as her feet brought her to pajamas and then bed. Soft movement was heard from the common room but sleep removed all sound and movement from the girl's knowledge. With every passing minute the rage was lost and Islay's whole body relaxed into the bed for the night. That was until she found herself being rudely awoken by an obviously raging head of house. "Follow me." Stern, angry, tired and most definitely Scottish. How Islay loved it, not. Without thinking twice Islay walked behind the old woman who turned and caused her lit wand to be dimmed by her shoulder. The halls dragged on and eyelids closed in odd moments.
The familiar smell of the hospital wing came into full effect and sure enough the doors flew open. "Now Miss Dumbledore, what have you done?" A slight pause between words made sure the sentence hit home. A small boy sat, supported, on the bed. Bandages covered the torso of the boy as he tried to smile slightly. Grief and regret took to the student's face. "I am so sorry Mat. I got angry and, and I couldn't stop it." The sentence that started rushed slowed down. Gleaming eyes met his as the lights from the wall made her eyes appear to be only white with a black circle in the centre. "You didn't mean to." Islay made no facial expression as her blank features made the whole scene even more depressing. The look stopped as the headmaster walked in with what could only be described as an angry expression on his face. "What have you done? Your pranks have never harmed anyone but yourself before." There was also embarrassment woven into his words. He couldn't control his daughter.
"I believe this was no prank. She lost control, anger took her." Minerva joined the conversation with a matter of fact tone. "Why, dare I ask, where you so angry?" Bright red Islay let her eyes meet Mat. "It was nothing. I was tired and annoyed at myself. Matty was being himself but I was being silly." The two adults met eyes and nodded with raised eyebrows. They both felt she just needed to sleep it off. "Well, before you do anymore harm I believe that you should go back to sleep. When your detention with Flitwick is over you shall serve a month in detention with Filch." Islay nodded and lowered her head. Annoyed at herself for gaining another detention. "Professors." Islay halted her walking as Mat spoke for the first time. Eyes threw daggers at him and everyone in the room saw. Even Madam Pomfrey. "She lied. Again." Eyes moved from him to her with both question and annoyance. For the life of him, Dumbledore could never read his daughter like he could other people. She was always a mystery. "She was annoyed because you were disappointed in her when you should be disappointed in me. Islay keeps taking the fall for my pranks." Dumbledore seemed to stop breathing for a moment but let a small smile escape. "Well, I do believe that I have been deceived." The playful tone made Islay relax a little more and return to bed.
Clocks read twelve when Islay made it to the Gryffindor room and heavy eyelids struggled to stay apart as the steps were climbed. Hermione lay asleep as well as the two other girls that claimed the other beds. "What are you doing up this late?" One girl asked but Islay only muttered a small "tell you later" in return.
Sunlight and Hermione. Two things that made Islay get up in the morning. Confidence leaked from Hermione as she set off for her day and giving a quick shake to Islay. It took a while but still the day entered Islay's mind and her eyes. The hospital wing would be the first stop before heading off to lesson one for the day. "Morning." Shocked into silence Islay curled her body around the arms that held her. "Where were you going?" A little shocked silence ensued until composure was found once again. "I was off to see you. Like I have for the past week. When did you get out?" Finally bringing himself into view Mat reported "this morning ma'am." A sarcastic salute followed and laughs echoes. "I am going to be on my best behaviour. Mainly because my mum sent that howler of course." The day would be as it should. Two friends side by side.
"Miss Dumbledore, please tell me the answer to question six." Although the word 'please' was used, no kindness hid in his words. "I do believe that the answer is to stir it four times clockwise Professor." A grumble was made but no extra points given like a Slytherin student would have received. "Very well, off you go." Snape always did dislike the small student but he seemed to push every possible button.
"...Hagrid told us." Finally Harry shut up and Islay let it all consume her. "So, Snape, he wants the stone. I have a feeling Hargid should not have said that. Still, that old bat doesn't deserve to get it." The two boys agreed but Hermione still looked unsatisfied. "'Mione, what is it?" Shaking her head the group talked some more. "Did you know that Nicholas Flamel attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic?" Ron went to open his mouth but Harry beat him to it. "That is a school for girl students." The glance of certainty made the group think. "How do... right, your dad." The group never seemed to think anything through. "Look. I do not know why it took you so long to tell me all of this but I can't risk my father being disappointed in me...fine. I shall meet you there soon. Do not delay, I fear Fluffy might bite." The hint of humour smothered out the nerves as they all parted ways.
