The heat was painful as the sun tore into the room that belonged to Islay. Red and gold simmered through the room as eyes opened and a hungry Tolkien purred at her feet. "Shut it you fat cat." The other students slept peacefully for once. No drama was felt, had or created and so the light snores were welcomed. The thoughts of her dear cat being a human filled her mind on occasion but nothing was truly certain.
School robes were placed on and the common room was entered. On the sofa not really entertaining himself was Mat. Eyes awkwardly met but both ignored it and Islay rushed off to see her father. Mat had kept his distance since the Christmas holidays. Many times Islay tried to talk to him but he would always leave without a single word. His friends consumed his every second and so with a bitter heart the whole friendship was lost. He seemed not too distressed but Islay still could not look at him without a tear forming later. "Islay." Deciding that he shouldn't see her cry the headstrong girl carried on as though he had said nothing. If she was honest Islay did believe just a little that he hadn't even said her name at all.
The castle heated up as every fire was lit and roared uncontrollably. The stones had began glowing a little but they stopped quickly. Mainly due to the fear of losing her home. "Miss Dumbledore. What is the matter now? Dare I ask." Minerva knew from the sudden change that something had happened and when the face of Islay came into view Minerva felt uneasy. Visually the girl was fine. "Nothing is the matter now." Her voice was cold as ice and soon the castle also became that way and Islay mentally cursed the lack of control. "Miss Dumbledore I would sooner believe that the twins had given up on being mischievous." The demanding tone would normally force the truth out but Islay felt stupid for being so annoyed by such a trivial matter. "Well, perhaps you severely underestimate the twins Professor McGonagall." The rudeness was as clear as day and cold as ice. "Follow me." Doing so begrudgingly small feet followed in the steps of the older woman.
A familiar office was entered and the door closed. "Now, this is my office and you know that no one shall overhear or enter unless I allow them to. Now, what has gotten you in such a rut?" Looking around the room bored Islay responded "nothing. Professor I am a teenager. Surely me occasionally experiencing mood swings is to be expected." Judging by the stern eyes McGonagall didn't fall for it. "Why do you care so much?" There was no more coldness just curiosity. "I have known you for far too long. I have come to care for you just as I should, just as every other professor, excluding the countless defence professors, have." Realising the truth Islay just shrugged. "Somethings are better left in the past." McGonagall sighed and waved her hand for Islay to leave the student took this chance and practically sprinted to get out.
One voice sent the entire school into a freeze. Mathew was there and he seemed agitated. Students commented on how suddenly cold it was but Islay played along. "Hey, Lala." Her pale white eyes met his as she wanted desperately to glare but found only sadness had taken over. "Can we talk?" Islay nodded and the pair were side by side. Pomona was on her way past the pair when she mumbled so that only Islay and Mat could hear. "Please heat this castle back up. I am positively frozen here." Islay looked around and saw how almost blue others looked and panicked. This seemed to make it worse and so it kept going. "It is over minus thirty degrees Celsius." Poppy commented as she walked but as the healer caught a glimpse of Islay she smiled a loving smile and when she could a soothing hand was placed on the student's back to try help. It did immediately as temperatures rose almost to what it was before. There was still a slight chill caused by her but it was hardly as noticeable.
"So, Islay. How are you?" The question was slightly disappointing for Islay to say the least as she hoped he would be direct with what he wanted. "Alright. How have you been?" His face clearly showed uncertainty when he finally responded. "Fine. Islay, I would like to say sorry. I know that I have been too rude and ignoring you. I was and am a scared school boy." Islay smirked, she seemed to take it well. His hand found hers but she pulled away. "I do believe that it takes more than telling me your mistakes. We can't just pick up from where we were." Islay was set on her mind and Mat could see why. It kept him from hurting her again. "You know. I am sorry. I thought that this, I didn't want to stop us from being this close. If we broke up it would be very awkward. I realise that I didn't want to do what I ended up doing anyway. I pushed you away. Normally it is you pushing me away." Islay crossed her arms in a joking manner. "I did that I believe once. And to be fair, it was an accident and you deserved some sort of karma. You also sent me to the very same place. The hospital wing. Thank you." He smiled at her as they shared a laugh. As this happened Islay moved her hand to his where they walked on. The pair were happy in the castle but it got warm rather quickly. The whole castle became sweaty. Students were drinking all the water they could. "I can only apologise." Islay muttered to Mat who laughed. "Hello Bean. It is so very hot. Do you not agree?" Albus still walked with a bounce in his step and stood in line with the pair. "Minus 30 and over 30. All in one day. My dear I ask that you join me for a talk." Islay nodded and left Mat behind. The air did cool and the day returned to the usual temperature. Students were all too baffled. Their faces said it all, as the pair walked past now moving and talking students who spoke of the day.
