Chapter 9

Night had taken over as Rick, Evy, Lucy, Ardeth and Jonathan arrived at high grounds. Everyone except for Jonathan was loading guns with ammo.

"You hear that?" Rick says quietly to Ardeth.

"What?" Ardeth says as he looks around.

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing," Rick says as they continue to load the guns.

"My word. I say, chaps, look at this! Shrunken heads. I'd love to know how they do that," Jonathan says from behind everyone. They all turned their heads around to him and looked at him in annoyance.

"Just curious," he says innocently as he sticks the torch in the ground and picks up a gun.

"You any good with that?" Ardeth says as he walked up to him.

"Three times Fox and Hounds grand champion, I'll have you know," Jonathan says proudly.

"You any good with that?" Jonathan asked Ardeth as he looked at the sword he had.

"We'll know soon enough because the only way to kill an Anubis warrior is by taking off its head," Ardeth said as he drew out his sword and raised it against Jonathan's neck.

"I'll remember that," Jonathan says as Ardeth puts his sword back.

Rick had just finished loading his gun before walking over to Lucy as she continued to load her gun.

"Lucy, try to remember to uh... just keep it tight in the shoulder and uh, lead the target a little bit and then uh, squeeze the trigger, don't pull it," Rick said as he looked at his wife in concern before Lucy put her hand on his arm.

"I won't miss," Lucy reassured Rick. They both leaned in and kissed each other like it was life or death, like they would never see each other again. Rick quickly pulled away and walked off to Ardeth as they went to find Alex.

As Rick and Ardeth reached the ground and continued to find Alex, the siblings were on high grounds, looking down at the forest.

"Evy? Jonathan?" Lucy said to her sister and brother.

"Yes?" They answer in union.

"That's my husband and my son down there. Make me proud," she said as she gripped on her gun.

"Today's that day, Lucy," Jonathan said.

"I will make them proud, Lucy and Ardeth too," Evy said to her sister as Lucy knelt down ready to shoot.

Rick's POV

Ardeth and I turn to face each other when we heard gunshots for afar.

"Let's go!" I said and we started to run to where we heard the gunshots. As we ran we made it, to see guns being fired at nearly every direction. I ran and shot everyone who was in my way, Ardeth doing the same.

"Dad!" I heard Alex scream and I stopped.

"Alex?!" I yelled back.

"Alex-" I started to yell but was cut off by two men being shot at from behind me. I look up to Lucy that shot them. I give her a small smile before I here Alex calling out for me. I ran as Lucy, Evy and Jonathan shot the men who were beside me as I ran to see Alex against a tree and a man with his sword out. I bolted to Alex as he called out to me.

"Dad!"

"Alex!" I yelled as I picked him up and put him over my shoulder in time. I continued to run from the man who currently was fighting with Ardeth.
