It's been about a month. Gabriel has been off, and Cas has been like a mother bird. There were a few times that Gabe ran away and came back a few days later with cuts on his middle right wing. One time after a slight fight, Gabriel locked himself in Sam's bathroom and came out a couple of hours later with cuts on the same wing. Cas was very snappy for the rest of the day. The Winchesters noticed that something was going on and was practically begging Cas to let them know.
"Gabe?" Sam asked one night after the repetitive days and nights. "Yeah?" He responded laying in Sam's bed because they still share a room. "Why is Cas acting weird?"
"I think it's because of the side effects."
"The side effects of what?"
"Well, I'm still having some side effects from the stabby thing."
"It has side effects?"
"Yep."
"Like what kind?"
"We're not sure. It's very uncommon for this to happen."
"But this had happened before?"
"Yeah, well, not to me, and not as bad. Just a slight stab."
"How did it happen?" Sam asked more out of curiosity than to gain information. "Luci decided that angel blades are the perfect batons."
"And he stabbed himself?"
"Nope, it flew across the room and stabbed Micheal. Luci spent forever apologizing even after Mikey got healed."
"So you'll heal but it'll take forever?"
"No, I can't heal by myself."
"Then what do we have to do to make you better?"
Gabriel rolled over so his back was facing Sam and an answer didn't come for a while. "You won't like it." Gabe said in a quite mutter. "Gabe what is it?" Another moment of silence. "I would need at least one other archangel." He whispered curling into a smaller ball. There was another long pause between the two. "Dean will be mad but I will see what I can do."
"Are you sure?" Gabriel found himself squeaking. "Yes I'm sure, if it's the only way to make you fully better." Gabriel turned around and was facing Sam now. "But why?"
"Why what?"
"Why would you go through so much to help me? You could leave me like this and just use me for whatever you two want. You don't need to do this."
"Is that what others do?"
Gabriel just nodded and looked at the bed sheets. While Sam was looking for something to say to, Gabriel turned back towards the wall opposite from Sam, silently. "You smacked me." Sam muttered. "Sorry," Gabriel whispered but did not speak any more.
The next morning, Sam couldn't find Gabriel. They were used to it, but part of him wishes that the angel was still extremely weak so he will be easier to watch. You press one wrong button and it will be impossible to find Gabriel again. He wasn't that worried about were the injured archangel is. He was focused on trying to convince Dean to help Gabriel get better.
"Cassie, I just don't understand." Gabe said in a quick jumble. "People are so confusing. One moment you swear they are plotting your murder, next they are have some heart filled conversation. It's so confusing."
"Are you-,"
"Do they hate me or not?! What if they do hate me and are pretending to care about me because they want to use me for something?"
"Or he-,"
"Cassie I'm confused-,"
"Gabriel, calm down." Cas sighed. "Take three deep breaths." Castiel told him and he did exactly that. "Now, what was bothering you?"
"I don't understand." Gabe said slower and quieter than he had the first time. "I don't understand a lot of things, so why did you go to me?"
"Because you are my loving baby brother."
"So what is causing the almighty Gabriel so much confusion?"
"Your boyfriend's brother."
"What about him?"
"I told him how to make me better and he was talking about trying to convince Dean but I swear he doesn't like me." Gabriel said feeling scared and insecure from the way his brother studied him. The largest wing on the left tensed and pulled the archangel's side without the awareness of him. Castiel shifted his gaze from the angel to the wing tucked to his side, and it stared to tremble under the gaze.
"Sam does hate you." Cas said turning his gaze back to his brother. "How do you know?" Gabe mumbled. "This is Sam we're talking about." Castiel pointed out.
"I think I know what's the remaining problem with Gabriel." Cas said joining the Winchesters. "What?" They asked. "Well, I'm not sure so we might need to experiment, but I feel like it's something to do with his emotions."
"Why do you think that?" Dean asked leaning against the wall. "I mean, no offense but it seems like a common thing to not be mentally alright after nearly dying."
"Not for an archangel." Gabriel said making everyone jump. "Archangel were kinda created to go through a lot of things to mess up there mental health and to barley be touched by it. Well, not to show it." He explained. "So, it does damage you all, but you're all tough cookies and don't show it." Dean said. Gabriel watched him with an amused look. "If that's the way you can understand." Gabe said smiling, a fake smile, but a smile non-the-less.
