Astrid POV

I leaned over my notes, jotting down the dot points that were rapidly appearing on the board. I bit my lip as I scribbled them down, my writing fading from neat to rushed. The lesson finished and I was copying of Heather, my notes rushed and pathetic.

I sighed and closed my book, shoving it in my bag and rushing to the door.

Bam!

"Sorry," A voice muttered, leaning down to pick up my fallen books.

"It's fine I've got - Hayden?" I looked at the face of the person carrying my books.

"Hey," He looked terrible.

We stared at each other for a bit.

"Uh- do you wanna hang out? Heather's got environment club, the twins have drama club, Simon has football training and Fred has an orthodontist appointment, and yeah.." I finish slightly breathless after listing everyone's various activities.

"Sure, I was going to go practice guitar you can join and sing or dance or whatever," he offers.

"Sounds like fun!"

We reach the music room, Hayden gets his guitar out and plays a few chords. "What song?" He asks.

"I don't mind," I tell him.

He starts strumming what I recognise as Safe and Sound.

I kick off my shoes and start moving my feet into various dance positions. I twirl and smile at Hayden. I do my current ballet dance, which fits well with the song.

At some point I start singing, so does Hayden. I didn't plan on singing nor did I notice when I started but he and I sung together as I danced.

"You and I'll be safe and sound" I finish my dance and smile at Hayden, only to notice that he was ... crying?

"H-Hayden are you okay," I ask running to sit next to him.

"I'm f-"

"Don't you dare finish that sentence!" I order him. He looks at me and stares back at the ground. I continue, "Hayden, you are not fine! You've been quiet and tired lately and you've shut the rest of us out, what's wrong?"

For a second I think he's about to answer, but he chokes up with tears and runs from the room.

I stare after him, wondering if I should've gone after him. But then I notice he left his jacket. Perfect! An excuse to talk to him! I grab it and start to run after him, only to see something fall out of the back pocket.

I lean down to pick it up. It was medication. Not just pain relief- actually doctor prescribed medication.

I dropped the medicine in realisation.

Hayden is sick
