Chapter 1 - Well poop.

Full of excitement, I swung my bedroom door open. "Morning every-" I was abruptly silenced by the sound of nothing. My eyes searched my surroundings to see a empty hallway.

I laughed to myself quietly. It must be a joke, there're all probably waiting for me in the dinning hall. With that in my mind, I shut my door and ran towards the stairs. Stopping to cheek my reflection, I fluffed up my newly curled hair. "Perfect", I recalled quietly to myself. I liked doing little thing to set me apart from the others - even if it was just curling my normally straight hair. Other than the reddish tint to my eyes we all looked the same.

As I got down the stairs and started rounding the corner to the dinning room I herd a loud chatter form everyone within. I mustn't keep them waiting, I thought. Today was going to be awesome.

Moving swiftly I entered the hall. Within seconds of my entry silence had cascaded over the hall, and all eyes were on me. Not in a good way.

Where was the happiness that today usually brings?

I scanned the room to find the table with my friends on it. When I located it, I move quickly to the seat next to my friend Helen. She gave me a horrid scowl as I went to sit.

What the bloody hell was that for?

I pushed it to the back of my mind, her drama was the least of my worries. The noise of my fellow students built up once again - almost as if my arrival meant nothing. Yet they sounded like they were whispering now.

Jeannette and Anastasia sat opposite from me. Taking a deep breath I spoke. "Hey guys, what's happening?"

Anastasia shifted awkwardly in her seat as she refused to meet my eyes. That wasn't like Anastasia, at all. She was usual loud and bubbly.

I looked to Jeannette, but she wasn't any help. Like usual, she was to busy drooling at the schools golden boy, Gerald. Just like every other girl that had working eyes. She worshiped the ground he walked on.

Me? No. Never. The shady type was not my thing. Even with medium brunette hair the guy looked mysterious. Don't get me wrong, he's beautiful. Just not my type.

"Please, can someone explain all this too me?" I pleaded.

Helen puffed out. "Don't act like you don't know, Lizzie."

You know, I never really liked Helen.

Ignoring Helen's rudeness I turned back to Anastasia. "Ana, I honestly don't know what's happening."

Helen shook her head in amusement before getting up and leaving. She moved over to the table to our right - the one with Gerald on it. Just as I suspected she would, she sat down on his lap flirtatiously and began playing with his hair. Gerald was loving it. Jeannette on the other hand - not so much. Her cheeks flamed up in anger.

Oh god. Helen knew how much Jeanette liked Gerald. Helen had done this before. Jeanette and I were only friends with her because she was Ana's cousin.

"Oh Gerald, stop." Helen giggled sweetly, obviously not wanting him to stop leaving little kisses on her neck.

Jeannette breathed in deeply.

Here it comes...

Jeannette flickered in and out, but I knew that's not what she did.

A high pitched scream echoed throughout the room. I looked at Helen who was now drenched in Gerald's orange juice.

I had to stop myself from bursting out laughing. Which earned me a glare from Ana.

"Jean." Ana, said calmly. "Using your powered for things like that will get you in trouble."

Jeannette was holding back a giggle, as Helen stropped out of the cafeteria.

The hysteria died out and I felt sad again. Still no one explained why no one was wishing me Happy Birthday and showering me with gifts - seeing as it was my 18th birthday.

The sight of a dark slender figure moving the distance caught my attention. Mrs Pensiverse. Just great, I thought. That woman really hated me. But I was confused, she never ate breakfast with the students. So what did she want?

Almost like she read - wait - she had read my mind, I could fell the presence of her in my thoughts. I tried to block her out of my mind, but that made her angry. She slowly started to drift over to where we were seated. Shit. What did I do this time?

I quickly turned to my friends and started to babble about why everyone wasn't celebrating.

"Jeannette, why is there no party? No gifts or celebration!? Does no one care?!" I almost shouted, but I didn't care if everyone heard. I deserved to know!

She sighed and looked me in the eye with a deep stare. "Get your head out of your ass, Lizzie. There's bigger problems that need worrying about."

Ouch that stung.

This time Ana spoke. "Lizzie... Why are you acting like such a spoilt brat?"

That stung even more.

I gulped uncomfortably. Confusion filled my mind. Every year this one day is a wonderful event in the towns calendar.

"Guys, I don't even know what you're talking about..." I admitted.

Jeannette squinted, confusion lurked in her expression. "You don't?" She tilled her head and her expression deepened. "Lizzie-"

She when to continue but was rudely interrupted by Mrs Pensiverse. "Lady's, I'm going to have to split this little chat up". She then turned her attention to me, and just me. "Elizabeth, come with me to my office, we need to talk".

Well poop.

I looked at my friends for support, maybe even some protest.

Nothing.

Sighing loudly, I stood up and lead the way to the wenches cave.
