Chapter 22 - I watched her die

"So my dad ran away from Amora town, around the beginning of the construction of the wall. He was a teacher at the school, and he knew what they were doing wasn't right."

Everyone was engrossed in Aerial's story.

"He posed as a human for a while. He then found a woman - my mother - and fell in love. He decided to tell her who he really was, but she was already pregnant - with me."

Plot twist!

Jeez Lizzie, don't joke about this. This is a serious story. Be respectful!

"They stayed with each other; they loved each other; they brought me up together; they were both loving parents; and I loved them."

There was a short silence.

"They didn't deserve what happened to them. It's not fair!" Aerial continued.

"Baby, it's okay." Anthony reassured her.

"...It's been a little over a year since my mum passed away." Aerial stated.

Oh my god. Now I feel like a total dick. I guess I knew how she felt...

Aerial went on. "Ever since my dad left Amora town, the Amoran's had been searching for him...One day we all went on a walk, we didn't go far - Just further than usual."

I didn't like this... I really didn't like where this was heading.

As tears began to streak down Aerial face, Anthony pulled her closer to his body. He whispered in her ear before brushing the tears of her face.

She inhaled and exhaled loudly before continuing. "The Amoran's were waiting... they... they killed my mother." She sniffled and rubbed her eyes. "I saw her... I saw the life dull in her eyes. I watched her die."

I didn't realise till now, that I had tears welling in my eyes. My heart went out to Aerial. If only I would have known before.

"Her last words. I remember them, clear as day - 'Bryan, get her out of here.' My dad is only a shapeshifter... he couldn't do much to save her, so he saved me." Aerial shifted in Anthony's grip, causing him to loosen his hold on her waist. "A few weeks later, my dad left. He told me that he had to keep me safe, by not being around... I was so lost and alone."

Gah. Right in the feels.

"God, I miss them so much." Aerial's quite sobs began to get louder and more vigerous. Her whole body shook as she cried into her hands.

I don't know why I did what did, but I did it. I stood up and walked over to where Aerial was sat, Anthony's arms slid away from her waist as bent down to her eye level. My arms wraped around her small body, pulling her into a tight embrace.

I was hugging her.

Her small arms found there way around my body as she sobbed quietly onto my shoulder. I stayed hugging her till she let go. Although her eyes were puffy and red her crying had stopped.

I gave her a reasuring smile, she returned it, so I stood up to let her have some space.

Soon after, Aerial also stood up. "Is it okay if I go get some air?" Her voice was raspy and filled with emotion.

Just like all of us, Sophia was still slightly in a haze. "Oh of course honey..."

"Thanks." Aerial left the room, Anthony was quick to follow her out.

I wiped the tears from my eyes, before anyone could notice.

Holy hell.

I didn't expect that.

When Aerial and Anthony rejoined us, Aerial was no longer crying. We all enjoyed some small chit chat. Although after a while - We ended up in an awkward silence. I was sipping on my 50th cup of tea when there was another knock on the door.

"Oh! That must be them!" Sophia sang as she jumped up from her chair.

I heard the front door open.

Then I heard Sophia's voice, as clear as tap water. "Linda! Allen! Come in!"

I froze at the sound of those two names.

Could it be?

Would it be?

How?

They were gone. Dead.

There must be people with the same names around. I was just being stupid.

It can't be them.

It wouldn't be them.

"I hope you guys don't mind, but I have some more guests." Sophia said to the people behind her as she walked into the room.

"No, that's-" The lady - Linda - began to say as she entered the room. She stopped mid sentence as her eyes locked with mine.

My heart exploded in my chest when I saw the man and woman.

It was them.
